Centipede bite

Posting here for traffic. Was sitting on a wall and got bitten by a centipide didn't even know they could bite . not much info on Google and I don't want to keep trawling though it as the pics of them are really freaking me out nothing here to clean it so putting ice on it.
Anyone know what to do?

Yes Wales. It was 2 inches long and a few centimetres wide. I posted on Facebook querying what it was I know and was told it was a centipede, I didn't realise they bit 🙊

Their bites are supposed to be incredibly painful. Are you in a lot of pain?

No not a lot of pain, mild pain but I've had ice on it so it's numb. I took it out as soon as I felt a pinch (the pincers were stuck in my finger!)

I had no idea they can be venomous, reading the treatment options ice seems the way to go. Are you in a lot of pain? Feeling okay? It seems the reaction varies from person to person. Are you in the U.K.? Hope someone with knowledge in this area comes along to advise you better.

Uk centipedes cannot give a medically significant "bite". Even a very large common centipede (Lithobius forficatus) would be hard pressed to actually break the skin except in more delicate areas of the body.

Sounds more like some sort of beetle

You've never been to a bug/reptile show have you? They always have tropical varieties that are massive and no one's allowed to touch because they bite.

UK ones are harmless though, maybe like the spiders, too small to be deadly.

I was intrigued by the square centipede too.

In WALES as well! It's the sort of thing you'd expect to happen in Guatemala or something!

In all seriousness though, I think you'll be fine. If you develop difficulty breathing, get help.

If in a few days it does black/green/yellow or gunky, get someone to look at it. If at any point it gets hot, swollen or very painful, get someone to look at it. If you develop tracking red lines up the limb, get someone to look at it. Same if you develop a temperature or feel fluey.

There's probably something else I can't remember but I'm still laughing at the long spider/traumatised so basically if anything else weird happens, maybe ask again?

Otherwise rest, analgesia and antihistamines OTC. Usual bug bite stuff.

Millipedes are not fucking friendly

Fuck centipedes bloody hurt and I've seen enormous ones. They run bloody quick too. Nothing scares the shit out of me more than a bloody centipede. I feel all hot and panicky just thinking about them!!!

Op can you call a health line? Not sure what's it's called in the U.K. Here we have a poisonous info line for spiders etc.

You should be okay with a British one, othere than some immediate discomfort.

The tropical ones are more like 6+ inches long and poisonous. Saw one on Borneo. Mind you, it's a bit like Australia in that respect, in that every other living thing there could kill you.

My 4 year old loves millipedes, he picks them up and carries them around or puts them somewhere safe. I wouldn't mind but we live in South America, it goes against every parents instinct to see your child caressing something that is segmented, shiny, black and about 5 inches long.

Hate those little buggers! Perhaps an antihistamine or some cortisone cream to bring down the swelling. If your breathing is normal, you're obviously not in anaphylactic shock. Ice was a smart move. (Squashing the bastard thing would be another)

No advice here, just I hope you're OK, please keep an eye on it. Oh, and that do not trust anything with more than 4 legs! All sneaky buggers! Centipedes are on the top of that list, anything with that many legs is up to something.

I strongly suggest amputation.

It is the only way to ensure you do not start growing extra legs and searching out shoe sales to get 15 pairs that match.
