to ask to get in the van?

Well not me, my OH. We are moving some stuff into a new house next week and have just found a 'man with a van' online.
In the past we've used family/friends etc butvwith the holidays people we know aren't available at the same time we are. I'm not really sure what the 'norm' is with using a man with a van you don't know.

It's just one load of bulky items that will be going in, so not an all day thing.
Obviously we dont know these people, so would it be acceptable for my OH to ask to go with them in the van, and I meet them there in the car?
We've been having bouts of bad luck recently (cowboy builders, workmen not turning up, appliances damaged in delivery things like that) and I'm having images of them driving off with our stuff.

If it is one man and a van surely someone else would need to help anyway? But no way would I let someone drive off with my stuff, I won't even use a removal company after someone I know was burgled the day after they moved and everything that had been move in had gone.

If he's got 2 helpers with him you may find one will need to come in your car with you.
Just check with him before he turns up, as opposed to asking him on the day and him saying no. Can't imagine he would have an issue with it.

@BewareTheUndertoad yes, we'd have met him there, helped to load/unload anyway just wasnt sure if it was cheeky to get in (felt like its asking for a lift when one of us will be driving anyway!)
