To think this is weird?

Just went to my local petrol station to get credit added to my pre-pay gas and electricity. Asked for five pounds on both cards. So a total of ten pounds. Got home and put the credit on my electricity meter. The credit accepted comes up as ten pounds. At this point I realise that I haven't been given the pay point receipts (which never happens, they always hand over the paypoint reciepts). At this point I think that the man serving must have just put ten pounds on the electric. Not the case, I have five pounds credit on my gas as well.
The lack of paypoint reciepts and the extra five pounds is making me think that something weird is going on.
Also standing next to the cashier was a guy who didn't have the bp uniform on.

Did you pay by cash or with a debit card? You may find he made a mistake and put £10 on one and £5 on the other and charged you £15. He may not have given you the pay point receipts if he realised his mistake and didn't want to tell you. On the other hand if you paid by cash woo hoo free £5 worth of electric Grin.

Troels · 22/07/2017 15:25

Have you checked your bank account to see if he charged you 15? Or did you pay cash. He may just have made a mistake and put 10 on one 5 on the other

Saiman · 22/07/2017 15:28

You sure your electricity supplier hasnt sent a £5 message at some point?

They are picked uo when you top up. They can take a while to come through.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 22/07/2017 15:29

Could it be that you already had £5 on one card and the additional £5 made it £10?

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 22/07/2017 15:34

I know I didn't have any credit on either card, I paid by debit card and got my debit card receipt which shows that he charged ten pounds to my debit card. I have not had anything from N-power about extra credit this year. I recieved free cedit last year but had to take the letter to the post office to get the credit added.

If our gas goes down to £0 and we try and use it, we get an emergency £5 added automatically (which is then taken off whenever you next top up).

Saiman · 22/07/2017 15:37

That would have been the warm home payment. But if they send a refund or similar its usually done through a message. Which is sent to the pay point and added when you top up. They would not write to you to tell you.

But its odd if you haven't spoken to them.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 22/07/2017 15:41

Ah, they did try to get me to answer a survey the other day, to which I declined. Maybe it's something to do with that? Not that anything was mentioned.

I don't know how all this works, OP, as I don't have this sort of electricity supply and don't have gas at all, but what are you concerned about - what is the 'something weird'? And what is the issue with the man not in uniform? I'm just trying to work out what your worry is.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 22/07/2017 15:50

Weirdness:
-lack of paypoint reciepts
-extra five pounds credit
-person behind the till who isn't wearing uniform
Any of these on their own wouldn't think anything of it. The three things together have triggered a little alarm bell.

OP posts:
MsMarvel · 22/07/2017 15:54

But what do you think has happened? You have more credit than you thought, but not sure what could he dodgy or worrying about this?

Cornycopia · 22/07/2017 15:58

" The three things together have triggered a little alarm bell."

About what, some scumbag giving out free credit?

dollydee · 22/07/2017 16:05

Are you worried the cashier was under stress and the man stood beside him was possibly robbing him?

Saiman · 22/07/2017 16:08

So have you spoken to them? I assume so as they asked you to do a survey?

Probably a message then.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 22/07/2017 16:08

I don't know. Just seems like the three things together is strange as I have always had my paypoint receipts given to me, I have never ended up with extra credit before and I have never seen a person behind the counter without a uniform on before.

OP posts:
TheFlis12345 · 22/07/2017 16:11

Maybe he was new, so messed up. The person not in uniform could be a manager supervising him.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 22/07/2017 16:13

It's quite likely to be a staff member in training

horsefeathers · 22/07/2017 16:15

I'd assume it was a a new staff member being trained - manager not in uniform, newbie makes mistakes i.e. giving you too much credit and not giving you the receipts. Don't panic!

Bluntness100 · 22/07/2017 16:16

What alarm bells are ringing, do you think the random guy was forcing him to give folks free credit?

The person behind the counter could have been anything from an owner through to someone from head office. The rest would be he forgot to give you your receipt and the extra fiver is some form of credit.

TheChineseChicken · 22/07/2017 16:27

I don't understand what the weird thing could be Confused
