Hotel staff letting themselves into your room.

I'm staying in a hotel at the moment. Twice this week I have been woken up mid-afternoon while taking the chance of a nap alongside sleeping baby by hotel staff.

To check the bloody mini-bar!

Each time I did hear them knock first but obviously it took me a moment to wake up, jump up and get to the door and each time they've already burst in by the time I've got to the door.

Each time they've woken the baby with loud stage whispers and clanking around with keys.

Is it too much to expect to be left in peace on holiday in room I have paid for?!

Do not disturb sign? Handwrite one if not there

Hotwaterbottle1 · 21/07/2017 15:51

Is there not a do not disturb sign to hang on the door handle?

Penny4UrThoughts · 21/07/2017 15:51

They usually have do not disturb signs you can hang on the door to avoid such things happening.

Hotel staff need access, I think YABU.

comedycentral · 21/07/2017 15:51

If you don't have a do not disturb sign ask for one or make one

RainaBaina · 21/07/2017 15:54

Oh, I didn't think of that. Yes, we do have a sign. I'll have to start using it. Never occurs to me other than in the morning.

Lol. In that case ya definitely bu! But there's an easy solution :)

Heratnumber7 · 21/07/2017 15:56

You should also be able to lock
The door from the inside.

YABU. Hotel staff are in and out your room all the time*.How would they know you were in there sleeping?

*slight exaggeration.

Heratnumber7 · 21/07/2017 15:56

Don't know why some of that was in bold.

ncbacktoblack · 21/07/2017 15:57

This happened to me WITH a dnd sign in the middle of having sex, not even under the sheets!

sonjadog · 21/07/2017 15:59

Use the sign. That will solve the problem.

MrMessy · 21/07/2017 16:01

Once we came back to our hotel room to find that the staff had let themselves in whilst we were out and re-decorated! All our stuff had been pushed to the middle of the room and covered with a dust sheet, and the walls were a completely different colour! Shock

Checking mini bars in a hotel was my weekend job when I was 16. It used to do my head in when people would not put the do not disturb sign out and not answer when I knocked.
I also walked in on a people having sex a few times, once they didn't realise I had come into the and I had to back out slowly as not to disturb them.

thebigbluedustbin · 21/07/2017 16:07

Yes to do not disturb sign.

They will knock and if there is no answer they will walk in. No answer = room is empty. They are just doing their jobs!

silkpyjamasallday · 21/07/2017 16:09

I had a male cleaner come into my hotel room as a teen without knocking and ignoring the do not disturb sign, I was sprawled naked on the bed watching tv to get out of the midday sun, he definitely saw everything there was to see before I could wrap the sheets up around myself. Never been so mortified in my life! A sign should help with your situation but it's not a guarantee in my experience.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 21/07/2017 16:09

This is literally the reason for Do Not Disturb signs.

DND sign and always, always lock the door from the inside!

Pollaidh · 21/07/2017 16:21

Duh. This is what the signs are for. Housekeeping staff have to clean, check supplies etc. If there's no sign up then it's absolutely natural they will come in.

Mulledwine1 · 21/07/2017 16:38

It's not doh. I thought the DND signs were in case you wanted a lie-in. Not in case someone comes walzing in in the middle of the afternoon. In most places I've stayed staff come in once a day and that's it.

Unless there's a turndown service, which you can opt out of.

sonjadog · 21/07/2017 17:29

DND signs mean that you are not to be disturb for whatever reason you choose. They aren't just for lying in in the morning. You don't have to explain and/or justify why you are using it to the hotel staff.
