To think this is weird?

Hi! Long-time reader, first-time poster. I recently moved to Sweden, and am loving it but finding it strange in some ways. It would be great to know if I am BU to find this really weird????

Recently we were having some drinks after work and one of my colleagues' friends came to the office and brought her chihuahua...we were all saying hi to the dog and stroking it and whatever, then suddenly she pulled a completely unwrapped hot dog sausage from her pocket and fed it whole to the dog.

AIBU to not want a dog eating whole sausages in my office while I'm trying to have a nice relaxing drink?????

It's funny not sure it's massively weird feeding a hot dog sausage to a dog?

Having it unwrapped in your pocket is weird though.

isibuko · 21/07/2017 14:45

That's the thing.....I don't mind the dog eating it so much but I talked to this woman for a whole half hour without realising she had unwrapped sausages in her pocket! I am not sure what I would have done if I'd known.

I can assure you this is not a Swedish thing. So you've gone to great pains to ask if it's weird if someone fed their dog a hotdog.

In short no it isn't. If it was unwrapped in their pocket that's odd but then again, not something I'd still be thinking about.

OutToGetYou · 21/07/2017 14:47

I think you're the weird one - you don't know what is in anyone's pockets. Why does it matter?

MrsOverTheRoad · 21/07/2017 14:48

Why were you "having a nice relaxing drink" in the OFFICE though?

Just as bad imo.

isibuko · 21/07/2017 14:51

Now that is a Swedish thing...I work in a small company and they lay on drinks every Friday afternoon for the staff. A great way to unwind!

What difference does it make to you?

Bitchfromhell · 21/07/2017 14:54
Grin Did she offer you a bite?
OstentatiousWanking · 21/07/2017 14:58

I'm trying to imagine what you would have done if you'd known about the hotdog.
Would you have asked her if she wanted a plate maybe?
Or slowly backed away while maintaining eye contact?
Or asked her to leave and never return with meat products hidden about her person?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 21/07/2017 14:59

You're the one being really weird...

I am not sure what I would have done if I'd known

It's a hot dog, not a knife. What exactly would you need 'to do'?

MaidOfStars · 21/07/2017 15:00

Why were you "having a nice relaxing drink" in the OFFICE though?
It's reasonably common for colleagues to have drinks offices up and down the various workplaces around the world? We do it a lot. Our (academic) institute even puts on subsidised beer in our building lobby on the first Friday of the month.

isibuko · 21/07/2017 15:00

Maybe a bit of all three!!

thefutureisfemale · 21/07/2017 15:01

Are you always this...weird op?
She fed her dog a hotdog sausage? What possible effect could that have had on you?

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 21/07/2017 15:02

I don't really understand, what's weird about feeding a dog a sausage?

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 21/07/2017 15:05

You said it was after work drinks implying a social setting, not a professional setting, so why is your office relevant? This is a bizarre nonsensical post I have no idea why I'm replying actually...

isibuko · 21/07/2017 15:06

Isn't it weird to go around carrying unwrapped sausages? I shook her hand! After that i probably had bits of doggy sausage on my hands. Maybe that got on the crisps too, idk..

OP posts:
thefutureisfemale · 21/07/2017 15:09

It is a bit strange to carry an unwrapped sausage I do agree.
However all you had to do was wash your hands and stay away from the crisps??

OstentatiousWanking · 21/07/2017 15:12

Grin at wash your hands and stay away from the crisps.

pinkyflower · 21/07/2017 15:18

so you think its weird that you might have bits of 'doggy sausage' * on your hands... ummm, how do you know if she is a hand washer or even a shudder* butt-scratcher?!

Lighten up! Grin

fleshmarketclose · 21/07/2017 15:28

I confess that in my dogwalking coat I have hotdog sausages unwrapped in my pocket. They are like crack to the dog and ensure he behaves himself no matter what temptations come his way. I wouldn't have them in my work clothes admittedly but don't wrap them because if I need to use them I need instant access. (I use them to ensure ddog returns at my call) He doesn't notice if they have lint on them as they don't touch the sides as he wolfs them down tbh .

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 22/07/2017 09:21

Do you spend a lot of time worrying about what you might have on your hands after shaking someone else's hand? Maybe just carry around some hand gel in future? But I see nothing weird about a dog owner carrying dog treats around in their pocket. Completely normal.
