Big brown box was what it arrived in.

Long white box is the actual item.

Hairbrush is for scale.

Item isn't even breakable!

Argh!!! Angry Angry Angry

Companies prefer to over-package because the mild irritation the customer might experience when they receive something in an unnecessarily-large box is nothing compared to the fury the company's customer service team will face, the loss of future business and the inconvenience of replacing a damaged item, when the product is not well-packaged enough.

It is annoying though when something that should easily fit through your letterbox is rattling round in a spacious outer box, leading to a missed delivery and trip to the post office to pick it up. (A micro SD card for my camera in a boxed up in a 12-inch cube, for instance!)

I ordered some pears in my online supermarket shop. They arrived packaged in a polystyrene tray with a clear plastic moulded cover on top, and the whole thing was encased in a cellophane packet. YANBU
