WIBU to complain to the council?

This morning I was woken at the ungodly hour of 5:30am by drilling right outside my bedroom window. I live on a (semi) main road, but still lots of residential flats etc and it's very narrow. It's not emergency work - they are redoing the pavement the whole length of my road and the noise was from some sort of flattening machinery that compresses the bits underneath the paving slabs they lay later on (you can tell I know a lot about this stuff Grin). So aside from the mechanical noise of the thing being switched on, it was also making a loud rhythmic thumping noise. Plus the engine of the truck next to it.

As I said, they are redoing the whole road so I can imagine there will be many more of these mornings in the future if I don't do something about it, but I looked at the council's noise complaints website and it said they don't accept complaints about roadworks! Surely there has to be a cut off point for when they can reasonably do this in a residential area?!

Council repairing roads, and you want to complain ? This is the wrong forum. You need the "I want to report a miracle" forum ...

Noooo the roads are crap they need doing. Get some earplugs Grin

MrsGideon · 19/07/2017 16:43

It's not the roads, it's the pavement!

The pavement ?!

Even rarer !!!!!

SafeToCross · 19/07/2017 16:54

Well, you could mention it to your local councillor, but I would not bother.

PseudoBadger · 19/07/2017 16:55

Yes you can complain.

TwoBlueFish · 19/07/2017 16:56

Google " roadworks" mine has details about what is happening and who to contact.

Palomb · 19/07/2017 17:03

No-one should be drilling at 0530 Confused

Unless it was an absolute emergency and one off I'd be complaining for sure.

engineersthumb · 19/07/2017 17:12

I'm usually up at 5:30 anyway. Annoying but at least it's only till you get a shinny new pavement!

Mrspiggy456 · 19/07/2017 17:15

5:30am?!! Erm no that's not unreasonable.
I was under the impression that they weren't supposed to start work before 8am. I'd have been fuming!

swingofthings · 19/07/2017 17:15

How nice for commuters that they have the sense to do the work outside of main traffic hours. Pity for you, but better than annoying hundreds of commuters. Well done on the council!

ps: I'm sure the workers were not overly excited at the prospect of working at 5:30, and therefore probably up since 4:30 or so.
