Stupid fucking waste of time pointless robots ringing to offer double glazing initiatives at quarter to 9 at night!
Woke the baby and I don't even get the satisfaction of telling someone they are thoughtless cunt!
Rant over Smile

I get them rarely, but when I do I like to engage them in conversation and waste their time. If I play it right, it takes them a while to realise that's what I'm doing.

Partly why I don't even have a landline anymore, and switch my mobile to silent half the time. If anyone I like rings, I can just ring them back later.

So fed up with this. I'd say 80% of our land line calls are cold callers. After the third one yesterday, I answered the next one but left the phone on the side without talking thinking I'll just nip to the loo and put it back when I'm finished. Totally forgot and only noticed 4 and a half hours later. Thinking of getting rid of land line for this reason. Did get one on my mobile the other day telling me I'd been in a car accident(which I haven't) and I did rant and rave at them for invading my privacy. Wish now I'd asked them for exact details just out of interest but I didn't want to humour or encourage them. Couldn't even block the number as there was no number displayed in my call record. I know it's just some poor sod trying to earn a living but if I want to buy something, I make the first move. I'd never buy anything from a cold caller.

Has anyone ever taken a cold caller up on their offer?

BT call guardian phones.. bloody brilliant. You put the numbers you are happy to get a call from in your handset's phone book. If the number is not listed bt kicks in and asks them who they are.

sorted.. house phone only rings when grandparents want us now

Caller ID is the best extra I pay for this reason. We were getting up to 15 calls a day. Now I can glance at the number and mute it.

these threads usually bring a few great answers for them.
I had one of the accident ones recently. I told them I had indeed recently been in a fatal car accident. He hung up
I may have knicked that from here

My DS (18) picked up the phone to a cold caller the other day. First thing they said was how are you today? So he replied with terrible, everything's going wrong, my car is broken, I've lost my job and my girlfriend has left me.

The woman on the other end was a bit taken aback but went into script mode, I'm calling today to offer you.......

He interrupted with you see, you don't care, no one cares, why did you ask if you don't care. His voice getting higher and more distraught.

She eventually apologised for disturbing him and hung up. Makes no difference in the scheme of things but gave us all a laugh.
