To ask how you cheer yourself up when you feel ugly?

Missb00 · 18/07/2017 15:42

feeling sorry for myself. Had an over indulgent couple of weeks, AF is due, got 10 million spots and feel about 55 stone. Can't seem to kick myself into gear so wondering what you all do when you're feeling fugly to cheer yourself up? The most appealing option to me right now would be to eat Ben and Jerrys for 7 days and 7 night, but I don't think that'll help.

For free: paint my nails and do a face pack. Have sex. With budget: get a hair cut, have massage.

Or take your mind off what you look like completely and watch something hilarious or phone an amusing friend?

I'm sure you look lovely and it's all in your head Smile but I know the feeling.

Justhadmyhaircut · 18/07/2017 15:47

Got initial gym induction tonight. .

3 stone to lose and today is the first step. .

BarbarianMum · 18/07/2017 15:50

I remind myself that beauty is only skin deep. It doesn't always work, mind you.

PossibiliTea · 18/07/2017 15:50

I feel like this fairly often lol.

Agree with the above about pampering, watching a stupid comedy film, cooking (healthy) with the radio on loud, actually leaving the house sometimes really helps once I make myself do it. Surprises me that people don't actually recoil in horror at the state I'm in lol so makes me feel better (not that you will be looking bad or anything but you know what I mean lol)

WooWooSister · 18/07/2017 15:54

I realise this may sound counter-intuitive but I get DS or DH to take a full length photo of me. It makes me realise that all of the blemishes and bumps that I think are glaringly obvious, aren't.

Laiste · 18/07/2017 15:58

If we're talking a 24 hour thing - stay away from mirrors, shower, wash your hair and put a bit of make up on. Dress in something you always feel ok'ish in (weather permitting) and eat healthily this evening if you can and drink a pint of water. Maybe do your feet (ped egg is great) and do your nails while a film's on.

You'll wake up tomorrow feeling a bit virtuous about the night before and hopefully feel better about yourself.

I've been feeling pretty horrible lately, stressing so I've broken out, lost half my eyebrows (I know, disaster).

I got up early today, had a Lush bubble bath, spent a couple of hours doing my make up and picking an outfit then went out for a haircut. I feel like my old self again xx

ConstanceCraving · 18/07/2017 16:28

Wash and blow dry hair.
Sit in the sun for half an hour and get a bit of colour.
Drink lots of water.
Wear something nice.
Exfoliate and moisturise body.

Tidythatmess · 18/07/2017 16:48

oh I feel your pain. I recently lost two stone and bought some new holiday clothes to hide the mum tum, got hair cut and coloured and nails painted. Then went on holidays to a resort frequented by many Swedish and Danish peoole and felt horrendous. they were all so toned and naturally attractive and stylish and I felt like a massive frump. Didn't help that DH takes photos from the worst possible angles. Tried not to let it dampen my holiday spirit but it was hard!

TheMaddHugger · 18/07/2017 16:53

Soft (((((((Hugs))))))))
I could have written this.
I try to get plenty of sunlight. Walk through a garden. sit by a fountain. Walk in a forest. Being disabled and as round as I am high, makes walking difficult.
I put on my good clothes and make up every day whether I want to or not.
I eat my food slowly and try to 'taste' every morsel.

I ((((((((hugs))))))))People all over the world on the net.

Cheers lovelies. I'll try my best to avoid mirrors and get some sunlight until I snap out of my mood! I'm sure I look absolutely no different to anyone else, just feeling like a blob!

I've just eaten loads of chocolate and a big bag of crisps as I'm due on and bloated. I plan to watch a box set of Greys and diet next week.

Whodoesthis17 · 18/07/2017 19:34

Instagram can make you look better, we all feel like that,,,

Missb00 · 18/07/2017 19:41

Errr ma gahd MomeRaths WHY did you say that, Kettle chips literally crawling out the cupboard as we speak.

I run, outside, whilst listening to dance music

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 18/07/2017 19:44

I do the following (not all at once, I'm not that motivated):

  • have a luxurious bath with decent bath stuff
  • read a good book - anything Pratchett or Bryson
  • paint my toenails
  • make one of my favourite teas
  • drink wine. I feel like shit, may as well drink a glass or two
  • go for a walk up the local countryside with nothing but my iPod
  • watch RuPaul's Drag Race
Sofabitch · 18/07/2017 19:46

I remind myself that my self worth isn't defined by how i look.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 18/07/2017 19:48

Sorry! It's ok sometimes to treat yourself. Eat healthily tomorrow Grin

EveEveEve · 18/07/2017 19:51

Change clothes and put 'ugly'clothes in the charity shop bag.

Missb00 · 18/07/2017 19:51

Sofa blimey I wish I could do that and feel better! Blush

MomeRaths can't start a diet on a Wednesday - might as well start Monday?!

OP posts:
MissTakesOurMaid · 18/07/2017 19:57

I feel like this fairly often, usually around my period, so to combat it I try almost everything on this list:

  • painting my nails
  • washing my hair or having a decent soak
  • moisturising and putting a face mask on
  • sorting makeup: putting makeup on, seeing what I look best in, chucking away the grubby things
  • having a mug of tea
  • lighting a nice candle - might be a bit woo but I love the smell of a new candle and watching the flame - it soothes me and stops me from being so... trapped inside my head, you know?
DeadGood · 18/07/2017 20:00

I tend to feel like this when I'm in need of a haircut.

Also, OP - consider refreshing your Instagram account. Fill it with beautiful flower photography, or images of travel, or inspiring artworks. Things that make you happy and uplifted.

PinkCrystal · 18/07/2017 20:00

Same for me sofabitch.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 18/07/2017 20:42

Yes Monday, and they say it's better to start a diet in the first half of your cycle apparently.

FiftyPoundNote · 18/07/2017 20:46

You're still the same wonderful person with unique skills and talents under the spots, lumps, bumps and bloat.

You're every bit worthy no matter what you look like Smile
