To complain about restaurant?

My DH thinks I was BU but I honk it was well founded.

We went out for a meal to celebrate being off chemo and all being good on Friday. We went late because he was in court a lot later than planned (job not defendant)! Anyway! We went to a fairly bog standard chain as money is tight

About 9.30 the staff go on their beak, the manager goes outside via an emergency fire exit right next to our table and smokes 3 cigarettes whilst having chats with various members of staff about their performance.. the door is open next to our table so we can hear the conversations but our table was surround by smoke, to the point that staff were wafting it away from the smoke alarms. I did complain at the time but the manager was no where to be found by the time we came to pay.

So I have complained to the head office and my DH thinks that was OTT so was IBU? To complain about manager smoking next to our table?

The manager was standing at the fire exit smoking - why didn't you complain there and then

Allthewaves · 17/07/2017 17:15

I would be sending an email to head office too

PhDPepper · 17/07/2017 17:16

I did ask the staff to close the door but yes I should have made more noise about it when we were there. DH doesn't do confrontation outside of work and got really peed off with me whilst we were out so I just left it

Allthewaves, the OP has said - I did complain at the time . It was just when they went to pay that the manager wasn't around which really would have been the best time to properly complain as the meal would have, in part, been ruined.

I'd have written to the head office too by the way.

YANBU your enjoyment of your meal was interrupted and if this is frequent behaviour they could be losing customers as a result. I think this is constructive feedback which will hopefully result in a proper apology for you.

DD0314 · 17/07/2017 20:58

YANBU. That's really rubbish behaviour and a complaint might stop them doing it again.

emmyrose2000 · 18/07/2017 01:38

YANBU

That's utterly disgusting. I'd have upped and left. I'd also leave reviews on Trip Advisor and any other review places relevant to your area.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/07/2017 02:27

I honk your complaint would be well founded too. Grin

Seriously...that's awful!

Complain.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/07/2017 03:47

YANBU. That is shit service and just gross.

Ineke · 18/07/2017 04:30

Would not have paid for the meal, would have asked if they minded that I eat while they smoke. YANBU.. Would have refused to pay

Id complain. I complained to head office when i walked into cancer research shop and saw and smelt staff member smoking whilst sorting the donations. I had to leave the shop as the whole shop reeked of smoke. Didnt work as she still doing it, i just avoid going in now. Yes complain, they shouldnt be doing it where they are. Congratulations re the chemo

cafenoirbiscuit · 18/07/2017 05:17

Review the place on Trip Advisor if you get no joy from Head Office.
Congrats on finishing chemo Flowers

@MrsOverTheRoad I didn't even see that! Oops!
