To have a Lily and Emilia?

My sil keeps making remarks about my dd's names. dd1 is Lily and dd2 Emilia.

A friend of dd is called Emily and her sister is Lily. It never occurred to me that Lily and Emily or Lily and Emilia are not am acceptable combination.

WIBU naming my dc this? Blush

CoraPirbright · 17/07/2017 17:05

I thnk they sound lovely names! SIL needs to bog off.

AfunaMbatata · 17/07/2017 17:05

No you are not BU! Those are lovely names, go tell your SIL to shove a hideous pineapple ornament up her arse.

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 17/07/2017 17:05

Lily and Emily is weirder than lily and Emilia.

Don't worry about it.

Storminateapot · 17/07/2017 17:06

That would never cross my mind, both beautiful names.

MrsPringles · 17/07/2017 17:07

MrsPringles · 17/07/2017 17:08

FloppingflipsFly · 17/07/2017 17:09

Is Emilia called Milly?

Milly and Lily would be a bit twee but if she's just Emilia or Em, Emmy, Ems or Emsy that's fine. Or even Lia.

Love Emilia. Dd was nearly Emilia :)

JemandScout · 17/07/2017 17:11

Confused I am not seeing the issue with the names. They are lovely.

FloppingflipsFly · 17/07/2017 17:11

"Oh you have used them" Yes a bit late for me to worry about it but SIL has planted a slightly nagging doubt. I now wonder if everyone thinks we were silly to uses these names.

Do you shorten Emilia to Milly? Lily and Milly are fine to me, but if that's the case, if DC3 comes along please call her Billie.
SIL is bonkers.

PinkHeart5911 · 17/07/2017 17:12

Why do siblings names have to be an "acceptable combination"? 😂 Wtf does that even mean?

Sil clearly needs to get a life

The names are fine and quite lovely names.

HipsterHunter · 17/07/2017 17:12

Em and Lilly are lovely. Milly and Lilly is pretty bad!

Leeds2 · 17/07/2017 17:13

I can't see anything wrong with it at all.

Has SIL said what the "problem" is?

FloppingflipsFly · 17/07/2017 17:13

NN for Emilia usually Emmy, Mia, Mimi just at home, she is usually Emilia. Her friends shorten her name to Milly though. So occasionally there is the Milly and Lily thing............ gulp.

Mila and Emilia would be a no but Lily and Emily /Emilia are fine. Lots of people have have kids whose name endings match. I know an Ava/Elena Milly/Daisy etc

toastandbutterandjam · 17/07/2017 17:21

They're lovely names. They're also your children and you can name them what you bloody well want.
When my sibling was newborn, everyone said one of her potential names was awful, didn't match my name, didn't match our surname etc.
My mum still decided to call her that name. It wasn't an outrageous name.
People, including family have tried shortening it several ways to (in their words) make it sound better (e.g - Isabella - Issy, Is, bells, Bella, belle,) Isabella isn't her name, but her name is lovely. She likes and requests people those who hate her name use her full name, apart from the select few who she lets shorten Grin

They'll always be an opinion, whether the child is here or not - Let it slide, they're your girls, you like those perfectly lovely names, so don't worry!
