Hello :)

I've got a ten year old car, bought it in November last year and for the most part it runs fine, little niggles but other than that it's all good. Last week I noticed a puddle of water under the car, and my Dad took a look and it looks as if the water pump is leaking.

Took it back to the garage I got it from as the left indicator wasn't working, and they started messing with the wires and fuses and broke all of the indicators. Now their mechanic has gone on holiday for two weeks to Poland.

Rang another garage, told 'if we fix your water pump we have to replace your timing belt, there's no other option'. So my quote has gone from £50 for the pump up to £250 for something I didn't even know needed replacing!!

Is this standard practise? I'm struggling to see why a garage can't just replace a water pump when that's the actual fault!
