NC as this may be identifying.

It is DD's birthday soon and MIL asked DP a couple of weeks ago what to get her. DP said he wasn't sure. MIL suggested a garden swing as we've recently moved to a home with a garden. Sounds great DP said.

Today, MIL has come to visit and said she's ordered the present to be delivered here today. During the visit MIL plays outside with DD pushing her around in her little tyke car we've bought her.

Later in the day after MIL leaves the present arrives. It's a little tykes car but in pink. WTF? MIL knew DD has one as DP mentioned it previously but she's just been playing with one in garden?! Why didn't she say anything to me?

AIBU to think this is a bit strange? She's been here all afternoon and not once mentioned she's bought DD the same gift?

Yanbu.

Maybe the parcel arrived wr9ng? Message her and say "hi mil, parcel got here safely but i wonder if theyve sent thw wrong thing as its the same car you were pushing her round in today"

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 15/07/2017 20:46

Exchange it for a swing and don't say anything when MIL comes round next.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 15/07/2017 20:48

Some people do this. Buy the same thing because they know the person likes it.

I had a mate who bought his mum the same spice rack every year and his neice the Stuart Little DVDs every year because 'they like them'.

He couldn't what he was doing.

Justhadmyhaircut · 15/07/2017 20:49

Maybe she is miffed dd hasn't got a pink one??
Or she wants dd to prefer hers?
Red flag if that's the case!!

MollyHuaCha · 15/07/2017 20:50

Old people can be weird. Over the years I've truly been stunned at the dumb gifts the Ps and PILs have sent our way.

ShatnersBassoon · 15/07/2017 20:56

She made a mistake, or the company have in sending the wrong item.

llangennith · 15/07/2017 21:01

It might be a mistake or she forgot. I'd give her a call and sort it out. Be nice.

ConstanceCraving · 15/07/2017 21:04

She must have changed her mind.

BrazillaBells · 15/07/2017 21:06

MIL isn't old Grin she's in her mid 40's! I just don't understand why she didn't mention it! She did say not to get too excited about the present but I didn't expect it to be the same bloody thing 😂

Great she has two cars for when her mates come round.

ConstanceCraving · 15/07/2017 21:07

She was probably embarrassed. It's a bit strange isn't it? Could DP talk to her and ask her if she can swap it?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 15/07/2017 21:10

Wrong present delivery, that's more likely the case.

Talk to her and find out.

Justhadmyhaircut · 15/07/2017 21:10

Had a thought - may bode well for the 17th birthday. . You get a banger and mil shows up with the real deal!! Grin

VestalVirgin · 15/07/2017 21:11

So she bought it before she saw your DD already has one?

Not that weird then, she might have been too embarrassed to say she bought something your DD already has.

Exchange it for a swing if you have the receipt. If not, call her and find a solution that will not cause her to be insulted.

Did she think the one she played with today was the one she had bought ?

missiondecision · 15/07/2017 22:16

What an odd thing to do.
Or did she order hers first? you waited for delivery? ?

Whichwayyisup · 15/07/2017 22:41
