To ask what makes a good leader?

I am returning from mat leave next month and will be starting a new, slightly terrifying exciting new job.

Apart from the usual jitters re returning after a year off, I'm nervous as this will be my first role officially leading a team (quite a small team of 9) While I have lots of experience in and am good at mentoring one-on-one, I've never really thought of myself as a 'natural' leader of big groups to be honest

So AIBU to ask for your tips on how to be a good leader/any books recommendations?!

It's important to be fair, approachable, and supportive when talking about 'soft' skills.

Set up regular one to ones with clear goals that can be evaluated regularly.

Don't try to be everyone's friend - it makes it harder when you have to do the tough stuff.

Good luck - you'll be fab!
