To ask where to stay in Venice?

We got airb&b last time but it was on Quidecca and we hated being off the main land having to faff with boats every morning. All the hotels on the mainland seem dead expensive for what they are so - where would you recommend??

Have stayed in both these hotels more than once, they are both beautiful and very central:

Hotel Paganelli......4 doors down from The Danielli,2 mins to St Marks, and Waterbus stop virtually outside. Not expensive, but clean and comfortable. Also has a tiny roof terrace overlooking the lagoon. I am going again in October. Have a look !.

The Sofitel and Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal are both nice (albeit pricier) options. They are both on the side nearest the train/bus terminals so easy access for you to drop your luggage and then head into the Centre.

Don't...! Stay in Treviso. Beautiful place, cheaper, doesn't feel like a tourist trap and a quick and easy train journey to Venice for the few times you want to venture in.

Stay on the Dorsodouro. It's quieter, but you don't need a boat ride to get anywhere. We've stayed in apartments near the Peggy Gugenheim several times - have you tried Airbnb in this area?

I've never been so can't suggest anything, by I hope you have a lovely trip OP
