To think some people are just rude?!

On the bus on the way home, there was a middle aged woman playing videos out loud on her phone. A few of us at the back of the bus made eye contact, a few people were looking at her but no one said anything. Eventually I said "excuse me, but is that really necessary to play out loud?"

She then launched into a tirade about how I should put headphones in (?!) other people were talking and having conversations so I should mind my own business. I responded by saying putting headphones in made no sense for me, that no one else on the bus was playing videos out loud and weren't talking loudly. It was quite clear she had to have the last word so i backed off. But wtf?! Why can't people just have courtesy towards others? Gah!

Yeah it's rude. Rude people get on buses also. I can think of ruder!

Shoxfordian · 12/07/2017 19:02

If anyone needed headphones it was her!

I think buses are even worst than trains. If that can make you feel better, at least she is not your next door neighbour, pity the ones who are.

I've noticed when driving the amount of people who don't wave thanks when you jet them through.

Also at our school there's a narrow path that's single file, the number of people go past without saying thanks when you've stood aside to let them go is astonishing. Particularly when there's a stream of them and new ones just join the stream without stoping to let the other side have a turn (it's very obvious). I counted 16 separate parents and children groups stream without saying thanks the other morning, ignoring the queue which had built up waiting on the other side.

Just say thanks, people!! Smile

There's signs on our buses about using phones and ipods, etc considerately.

Why is her age relevant?

ThouShallNotPass · 12/07/2017 19:23

I would think her age is relevant as she's old enough to know better? That she wasn't some young teenager who doesn't know how to act maturely?

FluffyPineapple · 12/07/2017 19:48

I have just arrived home from London, a four hour journey by train. All the way through the journey a young couple played videos and music (very loudly) on their phones.....laughing hysterically. Everyone was cheesed off.

One passenger, sitting behind them had the courage to ask them to turn it down as it was annoying other passengers. He was screamed at to mind his own business....Its a free country....They have paid the same fare as everyone else...blah blah

Then the female proceeded to make phone calls to various people. The F word appeared twice in every sentence......There were elderly people on the opposite side and in front of her.

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour! YANBU unreasonable OP. Some people revel in being extremely rude and offensive..

boffin9207 · 12/07/2017 19:59

roamingespadrille age is relevant because as PP have said, I would expect her to know better.

FluffyPineapple that sounds awful!

I use my phone while on the bus - catch up on social media, read the news etc. but refrain from having loud telephone calls, singing (I kid you not, someone was earlier this week and sounded like a cat being strangled) and try to be considerate to those around me.

Oh - just remembered something else that happened today. I was walking out of a shop, there is one door and as I am walking out, people were trying to walk in! WHy not let the person leaving out first?! People.

People, of differing ages, doing various things in public places? Heavens, what is the world coming too?

roamingespadrille · 12/07/2017 20:48

Typo: should say 'coming to' before it gets noticed.
