Not to go for this promotion?

WIBU not to go for a promotion in another department, which I'm likely to get, because I love my own department and am holding out for a promotion opportunity to come up there - even though nothing is guaranteed to come up? (1 job has come up in last 3 yrs)

Perhaps I'm just too comfortable where I am? I know everybody in my department, like the team, like the ways of working, and starting afresh where I didn't know anyone would be daunting.

But I do want to progress - I'm a grad whose been on 'rung one' for a few years now and do want to make that step up.

go for it...organisations usually appreciate versatility and a degree of keenness to progress...you don't want to be the grad that a recruiting manager goes "why have they not progressed in the last few years...you may end up being perceived as someone who just wants to be comfortable..."

There is presumably no reason reason why you couldn't go for this "rung two" job, get more, varied experience and come back to the first team in a "rung three" job in a couple of years...?
