Hi am calculating a friend's tax credits renewal for them (they're in crisis and cant do it themselves just now) and I need to know how much the weekly rate of carers' allowance was in the year apr 2016 to apr 2017. All the info I find online pertains to the 2017-2018 rate. So please please help with the following:

  1. what was the weekly rate for the financial year recently ended?

  2. is it as simple as 52 x weekly rate to work out how much my friend got that year or does Carer's Allowance have a Christmas bonus (I know DLA does).

Thanks very much for any help. I love you all. Sexually.

I don't need you to love me sexual, thanks all the same, but carer's allowance was £62.10 per week with no Christmas bonus.

Brilliant thanks. I love you platonically.

There IS a Christmas bonus for CA. Or has been for me anyway. £62.10x51 + £72.10.

They take that sum as Income hahahahahahahahaha! Angry so you are penalised for it for tax credit purposes.

Pretty sure it's below the Living Wage.

No idea why that posted twice. Hmm

They do take it as income, as it's a 'taxable' benefit. Only makes a difference if you and/or your partner work and have other income though.
