To ask have you ever lost weight in a week?

In a pre-holiday scenario literally everybody could predict, I am one week away from departure and looking in the mirror with dismay at my wobbly tummy.

I am a healthy weight and normally do a lot of the sensible things to stay in shape but a combination of travel for work, sick parents in hospital and overall self-neglect has meant that I have been overdoing the pies and underdoing the gym.

Is there any way I can get more beach ready in the space of a week??? (without doing anything dangerous). Has anybody ever done this or is it a myth to think its possible??

You could lose water weight if you are prepared to have the shits for a couple of days. Brew a slimatee for 10 minutes, you'll soon know about it!

Actually don't do it, I felt so poorly off it I really wouldn't recommend it.

CakeNinja · 08/07/2017 20:34

Do some dry body brushing, drink nothing other than water, eat clean, no snacking, go to bed early so you aren't tempted to snack in the evening, no processed no food. It won't be a miracle overnight transformation, but with a week to go, it's the best you're realistically going to get.

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 08/07/2017 20:34

You could go lo-carb, cut alcohol etc.

Or not worry about anyone else thinks. I certainly don't look at people's tums when I'm talking to them, it's the cheerful convo that I enjoy.

FatGirlWithChocolate · 08/07/2017 20:34

A couple of days of fasting (500 cals a day) might not shift a lot of weight, but if you have any tummy bloating it will greatly reduce that, and you might feel that you look better, though I am sure you look fine..we are all very hard on ourselves.

Nancy91 · 08/07/2017 20:35

Really low calorie and low carb, drink a ton of water, barely any salt, try to get a bit of a tan to look leaner. Fasted cardio.

You'll be looking slimmer by then. Okay it's hard to maintain but you're looking for speedy results.

InfiniteSheldon · 08/07/2017 20:38

Most 5 1/2 lbs my first week at SW, like others have said eat clean small portions of whole wheat cereal or wholesale bread every day drink lots of water, fish lean meat fruit esp pears apples oranges, melon and berries, do some yoga every day Adrienne on You Tube is brilliant. You can do loads in a week if you're determined.

islandboats · 08/07/2017 20:41

Wow thanks everyone. I really needed some ideas and inspiration for things I could try just to make a bit of a difference in a week. I know I probably am being a bit hard on myself but I like to try to maintain myself at a certain weight/ fitness and fight back a bit when things go the other way.

I was thinking go really low carb, lots of salad and water, get out and move my wobbly ass a bit. Tan is a great idea! I have a daily gradual one I have also been neglecting to use so will start back on that. The holiday is in a place with access to a lovely pool and gym and with places to go for nice walks so I'm also thinking if I can kick start this before I go I might get more out of it.

My record is 11lbs in one week on Slimming World. I was a fat fuck though. Still am Wink

Think those body wrap things can help losing inches short term.

XiCi · 08/07/2017 20:42

I lost 10 pounds in a week doing low carb, high fat. Atkins diet basically. And I didn't have much to lose so was so over the moon.
Jillian Michaels has a 7 day workout available for holidays which might be better suited to you

BattyBagshot · 08/07/2017 20:44

I once lost 10lbs in a week when under extreme stress (wasn't trying to lose weight), so it's clearly possible for the body to shift weight fast. Go low carb, cut out alcohol and any sugar based drinks and do 100 sits up twice a day? Also do a couple of miles brisk walking a day if poss? You'll probably notice some difference in only a week. Don't aim for 10lb though, I can't recommend it!

islandboats · 08/07/2017 20:45

CrochetBelle and XiCi 11 and 10 pounds in a week that's unbelievable!!!! There you go, I was wondering if these tales of losing weight in a week were a myth and they're clearly not. If I could shift three or four in a week and then get really active on the holiday I would be really pleased.

The only time I've lost weight in a short space of time come to think of it was during early pregnancy when I was too sick to eat or keep anything down and didn't have a baby bump yet. That wasn't fun either as far as I recall.

Just say "fuck it".

You won't look MUCH different, no matter how unpleasant the next week is.

BattyBagshot · 08/07/2017 20:48

Should say, I had a healthy BMI to start with when I lost 10lb - probably about 21?

Motherbear26 · 08/07/2017 21:03

No carbs, no alcohol and no sugar (check the packet of everything you buy, the stuff is everywhere). You can eat full fat everything and I recommend that you do as it helps stop the carb cravings. Cheese, yogurt, nuts, eggs and full fat milk are excellent. Also eat plenty of veggies for the vitamins and minerals.

Get up early every morning and do HIIT before breakfast. If you don't have DVD/fitness classes just google, there are loads you can watch on You Tube. Drink loads of water to keep you full (2-3 litres per day). Make sure you get plenty of sleep every night (at least 8 hours).

It is very tough but it really works. Just don't go mad on your hols or it you will put the weight straight back on. Think of it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. One or two small treats is fine, no more. Good luckFlowers

islandboats · 08/07/2017 21:04

Crikey Batty that is even more unbelievable.

Thank you Motherbear they are excellent ideas. I think I have a neglected Gillian whatshername dvd somewhere so I can get that out. Morning exercise is a great suggestion as my motivation wanes in the evenings. I will go all out on eliminating carbs (I am eating far too much bread/ pasta/ potatoes at the moment).

Jason Vale- the Juicemaster. Google him or download an app. You can lose 7lb in 7 days and get glowing skin also. I swear by it.

HopefulKate1980 · 08/07/2017 21:08

Google 'The Three Day Diet' - i have done it loads in the past and lose around 7lbs each time.

MrsWOLF1 · 08/07/2017 21:08

10lb off when I first started sw .4 & half pounds off last week (10 months in)

HopefulKate1980 · 08/07/2017 21:09

Oh and for maximum effect on the Three Day Diet, don't eat anything after 4pm and make sure you keep to the portion sizes xx

islandboats · 08/07/2017 21:48

Thank you HopefulKate I have never heard of it but will look it up.

I am currently doing Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. She also has a 7 day shred with good reviews. Maybe worth seeing if you can find it on YouTube?

islandboats · 08/07/2017 22:12

Thanks I will look at the 7 day one, I have the dvd for the 30 day one (gathering dust)

Ok well I have had a pretty good start today (I think). I have decided to go the low carb route (have done it a little before but not recently). I made a low carb smoothie for breakfast, also some kale chips. I spent several hours out going around shops looking for some holiday things so I took along a chunk of cheese and some cucumber (like a sandwich without the bread). Then when I got back in the early evening I made roasted cauliflower with a quorn sausage and a large salad of greens, avocado and feta cheese. It does feel strange with the low carb approach to be eating a lot of high calorie foods, like cheese and I have no idea if it will give fast results but I'm going to give it a go anyway. I also had some strawberries with cream and one square of very dark chocolate. I applied some of the gradual fake tan stuff before bed last night, will do the same again this evening.
Exercise-wise I haven't done anything amazing today but did walk for literally three hours all around town when shopping. I also did some yoga practice yesterday evening and will do a bit again this evening, plus I did some sit-ups yesterday.
Thanks again for your advice and I will update about how it goes and whether I feel any more holiday-ready by the time I go on holiday!
