I had a scan today. I should be 7 weeks and 6 days. I had light spotting on Saturday and nothing else since but the midwife thought it would be advisable to have a scan anyway.

Went for the scan and they can see the yolk sac and there's something in it but it's not 7 weeks 6 days iyswim.

I've to go back in a week because

A) I'm not as far on as I think
B) the baby has stopped growing

Has this happened to anyone before. I've gone back to work after the scan and it's all I can do not to weep at my desk Sad

My periods are regular which made the midwife a bit Hmm because that would suggest it's a miscarriage Sad

Has this happened to anyone before?

I have no advice but didn't want to read and run

Flowers I know its easier said than done, but please try not to worry - it wont do you any good Flowers

I hope this next week passes quickly for you and you get your mind put at rest at the next scan and everything is ok with little tiny peanut

furryelephant · 04/07/2017 12:44

I was in a similar situation. I went for a scan and I should have been around 7 weeks and 3 days (or roughly, it was last year) and they saw a yolk sac and a tiny fetal pole if I remember correctly. They estimated that I was around 5 weeks. Like they said to you, I either wasn't as far along or the baby had stopped growing. I went back for a rescan 10 days later and saw a heartbeat and now a 7 month old is sleeping on my chest Smile

I really hope everything is okay with your little bean Flowersthe wait is absolutely horrible I know Sad

Jellyhanging555 · 04/07/2017 13:18

Happened to me- I was meant to be 7 weeks- had bleeding- went for an internal scan- they could only see the yolk sac. Went back two weeks later and there was a heartbeat. Preganancy all went well after that. I hope it's the same in your case OP- it was a long wait and a horrible time Flowers

pleasepleaseme · 04/07/2017 13:26

Thanks so much ladies. I wish I hadnt come back to work. I need a good cry and a cuppa. I really really hope it's a good outcome. It's the regular periods and the nurse's face when I said they were like clockwork Sad

I would go home tbh. Give yourself a bit of space today.

thisismadness77 · 04/07/2017 13:30

I had this but I was certain of my dates so came to terms with it before the next scan, and sadly the outcome wasn't a good one. Hopefully yours is though.

PicaPauAmarelo · 04/07/2017 13:31

My periods were clockwork, 31 days since they started. The same thing h happened with my first. He's now 13, turns out (I know this after 4 children) that I ovulate very late in my cycle. So what was supposed to be a 7 week pregnancy was much younger.

I hope this is your case as well Flowers

PicaPauAmarelo · 04/07/2017 13:32

I would go home as well.

JoffreyBaratheon · 04/07/2017 13:32

Aw love. Not precisely that but similar.

I had persistent 'unexplained bleeding', near the start some of it looking like periods, throughout the entire length of one of my pregnancies.

At one point, baby decided to be born too early to survive and I was rushed into hospital and they gave me (steroids? 17 years ago. I forget) injections, anyway, and luckily baby survived.

Another pregnancy I was expecting non identical twins and lost a twin but all before I was scanned (as I didn't know I was pregnant til I had the miscarriage).

Keep hopeful, and positive as is possible to be right now, given all this, and whatever the outcome, you have done the best for you and your baby.

peachgreen · 04/07/2017 13:32

Oh OP I really feel for you, it's such a horrible wait. I really hope everything will be okay.

NotAPuffin · 04/07/2017 13:32

This happened to me at the start of both my pregnancies. I have healthy 7 and 5 year olds now.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 04/07/2017 13:42

Is there any way you can go home op? Maybe just say to your boss you're not feeling great.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. It's a horrible waiting game in between scans.

Get home. Do you have someone in rl to come round and give you a hug and cuppa? (If not stick around here we'll look after you Flowers )

pleasepleaseme · 04/07/2017 13:43

pica

I did mention ovulation to the sonographer as when my DS was conceived I have no recollection of having sex right in the middle of my cycle.

Thanks aaaaaaargh

My DH will be in later but he's so bloody rational and practical. He has a "what will be will be" attitude when I just want to break my heart

steppemum · 04/07/2017 14:08

with dc2 all the health professionals from the 12 week scan until the day she was born all insisted she was 2 weeks younger. (induced at 38 weeks due to illness, and she was covered in the white stuff and they insisted she was 36 weeks max - despite weighing 8lbs!)

That was impossible, we hadn't had sex, then had sex once, then dh was away for 3 weeks, so I knew the night she was conceived!

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 04/07/2017 14:19

Ahh my DH is the same. He is of the attitude that there's no point worrying about things you can't change. Drives me up the wall sometimes. But to be fair to him when we went through something similar he pulled through for me. He could see how much it meant to me and how upset I was. Im sure your DH will be the same x

TooGood2BeFalse · 04/07/2017 14:22

Yes this has happened to me OP. I should have been 7 weeks, the doctor told me they had not seen enough growth. No heartbeat, pole etc. I was advised to go home and wait to bleed.

I didn't bleed, still felt sick and was getting strong positives. Called the doctor and was advised to come in for a last scan before a D and C he next day (not in UK, private clinic). Lo and behold a 7weeks 4 day little fellow was there. Grin He turns 1 this Friday!Prepare yourself but don't give upup all hope yet xxx

pleasepleaseme · 04/07/2017 14:27

toogood

That's wonderful Smile I'll remember all your positive stories and if next week brings bad news then I'll just try to remember that it just wasn't to be. I conceived relatively quickly (in three months) and DS1 was conceived quickly too so I have that to be thankful for. There will be more opportunities for me hopefully x

Yes, I've had this although I should have been 11+ weeks so it was fairly conclusive that It wasn't viable.

I went back for confirmation after 7 days & as no growth was offered options of d&c (surgery) or medical management (drugs).

Expectant management (waiting) wasn't recommended in my case as it hadn't resolved after already 6ish weeks.

Sorry that you are going through this. I had a 2nd miscarriage later the same year which would have been like a really heavy period except I had done a positive pregnancy test a couple of weeks before. At the time it was fairly devastating, but I then went on to have my 2 successful pregnancies. Flowers

mmgirish · 04/07/2017 15:05

Yes I had bleeding and went for a scan at 9 weeks. Something had 'torn' on the inside and there was a blood clot bigger than the foetus. They gave me meds to make it 'stick' and put me on bed rest for two weeks. It worked.
