Had lunch with a lovely friend I worked with many years ago. She is doing fantastically well work wise. We started at a similar level, she is miles ahead. She is single no kids, I am married with two DDs. She was dressed v smartly, I turned up in my jeans before the school run. I am happy in life but can't being a bit down. Just needed a bit of cheering up from lovely MNs

why do you need cheering up?

could you sell your children so you can buy a smart suit? Confused

Cakeisbest · 29/06/2017 15:15

She'll be on another thread saying how down she is that you have a wonderful marriage and two fantastic kids and such a busy packed life! Sending you hugs!

Allthebestnamesareused · 29/06/2017 16:53

What cake says^^. She may be successful but feel lonely. She may regret having no partner or kids.

The grass is always greener. Give your kids a big cuddle and snuggle up to your husband tonight.

CatWranglersAnonymous · 29/06/2017 16:54

araiwa is your comment meant to be funny? It doesn't sound very supportive.

Writerwannabe83 · 29/06/2017 16:58

Don't be down!!!

I see younger colleagues around me getting promoted and having luxury holidays, spending fortunes on clothes etc and enjoying their life to the max and it would be very easy for me to get jealous but I don't because I her to go home to my fantastic husband and my son who is my absolute world!!!

I wouldn't never want to trade my life for theirs. A bit of their money might be nice though Grin

IDoDaChaCha · 29/06/2017 17:06

Allthebest is right- the grass is always greener. You never know what someone else's life is really like. Admire her, use her as inspiration if you want some of what she has. She could be your mentor? X

NicolasFlamel · 29/06/2017 17:11

Don't be down. I sometimes feel really inferior to my friend. I'm just a mum and she's single, living in London and starting a career in law. We've known each other since we were babies and I've always felt she's better than me but she's always wanted a relationship and family and really worried she'll never get that (She will, she's fab) and has a lot of confidence issues when it comes to dating and relationships. The grass is always greener.

trevortrevorslattery · 29/06/2017 17:14

You are also fab - you and your friend are just different Flowers

This website, which I saw recommended elsewhere on MN, never fails to cheer me up:
gruntle.me/

Brittbugs80 · 29/06/2017 17:15

Isn't it the grass isn't always greener rather than the grass is greener?

And what others have said, she may be lonely or wish she had what you did. Her life isn't better than yours, it's different.

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 17:39

As others have said, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Also, yo can be amused by this real toad purse found by another MNer Grin

Cheer me up pls

user1498812297 · 30/06/2017 12:43

I guess everyone feels a little bit down from time to time, even those fabulous and successful women. So cheer up and think of all the love that you get from your family. :)

fleur34 · 30/06/2017 12:47

Life could be worse - at least you're not a toad that's been made into a purse!!!! Shock Grin

cakecakecheese · 30/06/2017 13:03

I'm sure your friend would say lovely things about you too, you have different lives, doesn't mean one is better than the other.

I wish I could unsee the toad purse Grin

As for cheering up if you like puppies I posted about one here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2967696-To-steal-my-friends-dog and the responses are brilliant.
