To use the handwash setting on the microwave?

Apologies for boring topic. Posting for a speedy response!

Cleaning the car seat for DC2's imminent arrival. Just pulled it down from the loft and is dusty so I have removed the covers. Washing instructions are to handwash at 30 degrees.

Washing machine has a handwash setting. I'm not practised at handwashing generally.

Is this going to wreck the covers or is it a nice, gentle alternative to actual hand washing?

Microwave?

Teacupinastorm · 22/06/2017 20:21

I only opened this to figure out how you can handwash in a microwave Grin

I'm sure it will be fine Smile

SmileEachDay · 22/06/2017 20:21

How the actual fuck do you wash your hands in a microwave? Grin

Sirzy · 22/06/2017 20:21

I'm glad you changed it to washer in your main post!

I would use the washer.

mintbiscuit · 22/06/2017 20:21

You have a handwash setting on your microwave? Ouch! Grin

SheSaidHeSaid · 22/06/2017 20:21

It'd probably be fine, I think it's a very gentle cycle.

Just make sure it is the washing machine and not microwave you use though Grin

I'm Shock at a microwave with handwash setting :o

it will be fine. I habe washed car seat covers without ill effect before.
if in doubt low temp and slow spin speed.

FemaleDilbert · 22/06/2017 20:23

I put everything that says hand wash only in the washing machine hand wash setting and no disasters as of yet

Supersoaryflappypigeon · 22/06/2017 20:24

Grin I was wondering what fancy pants microwave you had Grin

Thank you all. That's good. Handwashing sounds rather a faff.

Sorry another Grin at microwave.

I'm guessing it's spun less vigorously etc. So should be fine. An alternative would be to hand wash it or take it to the dry cleaners or launderette who may charge say £10/20.

So I guess it depends if the item is worth more than that, as if it's ruined a new cover will likely cost more.

Huldra · 22/06/2017 20:34

I often use the handwash (washing machine Grin) for items that say handwash, nothing has fallen apart yet. Also for other random things like picnic rug, trainers and sun hats without and fabric cleaner in it.

Sirzy · 22/06/2017 20:36

I have never read the label on ds seat cover -'just chuck it in the wash and it's survived fine!

ProfAnnieT · 22/06/2017 20:48

This thread is going to be so popular with people wanting to know about the microwave-handwash life-hack. Move over mug-cakes! Grin

KingIrving · 22/06/2017 20:48

Yes it will be fine but MAKE SURE you are setting the temperature at cold if the program doesn't do it itself. My handwash program on my machine at 30 degrees as default.
Also use a liquid detergent because there is less water and less movement

McButtonwillow · 22/06/2017 20:53

Oh I'm disappointed there's no handwash setting on the microwave 😂

MimsyFluff · 22/06/2017 21:16

You have also disappointed me Sad

Belle1939 · 22/06/2017 21:20

My boyfriend dries his pants in the microwave I'm horrified to add

DianneDionne · 23/06/2017 08:08

I've always used the handwash setting for the car seat covers with no problem, however, the last time I washed an older one for the 2nd time the warning sticker came off the side of it (it was a maxi cosi cabriofix and the legal part is stuck on the right hand side of the seat). Didn't affect use but I'm sure those stickers are important.

My friend dried a pair of jeans in the microwave. Blew the top of it due to the metal in zip etc. He was astonished as apparently he'd always been ok when he dried his socks the same way!
