Filling in a job application for a job in my current workplace. I've filled in the qualifications, references, etc and have left the supporting statement to last, because I don't know how to start it Blush

It's 9 years since I applied for a job, and when I look back at that application, I think (I've left it on my desk) I dived straight in with
"In my previous role, blah blah."

It doesn't feel right for this one, but I don't know where to begin. Anyone here work in recruitment, or experienced in interviewing who could help me off to a good strong start?
