We're in a flat, the weather is so hot right now and we're melting sitting in our flat all evening.

It's too hot after school, so maybe later is better - 6pm(?) - however, I'm really tempted to take the DC down to the one of the parks for their dinner, after they've showered etc. We have one a minute walk away, and in the other direction, we have a few fields ( not farmers)

I'm very Envy at the people dining in their gardens with paddling pools for the DC.

AIBU to do this? If so, then is an alternative available? If not, then ideas for easy picnic dinners would be fab Grin

Sounds lovely!

PippaPug · 21/06/2017 21:32

Why wouldn't you have a picnic?!

Catinthecorner · 21/06/2017 21:33

So a picnic in the park? Very reasonable and sensible

youlittlecharmer · 21/06/2017 21:34

We do this all the time! Make a quick tea of pasta or something, box it up and go and sit on a blanket, it's lovely.

PippaPug · 21/06/2017 21:34

Wraps, sandwiches, quiches, burgers, pasta, boiled eggs, hummus from the top of my head!

endofthelinefinally · 21/06/2017 21:35

Yes definitely take a picnic to the park. Your dc will love it.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 21/06/2017 21:35

So you're having a picnic? Perfectly reasonable.

Bizzysocks · 21/06/2017 21:37

NU pasta as suggested. or sausage and chips wrap portions in tinfoil or if just sandwiches etc like you would for a lunch especially if they have hot school dinners.

SouthernNorthernGirl · 21/06/2017 21:38

Ooh, really pleased at the response Smile
I guess I wondered if it was UR as I mean to do it a few weeknights, and pile down there for a couple of hours.

I'm not sure why I questioned it actually Confused Grin

It's a good idea... I think I'll do the same!

BangkokBlues · 21/06/2017 21:41

Why on earth would that be U?? Enjoy the warmth and light n

RB68 · 21/06/2017 21:58

6pm still quite hot though but yes that is what this sort of outdoor space is for.

Big fruit salad for dessert or bowl of strawbs

Ironmanrocks · 21/06/2017 21:59

Thats why parks were created! By the Victorians - small or no gardens at home so parks became the communal space for everyones enjoyment - its exactly what they are meant for. I have a big garden but I'm a teensy bit jealous, as its more exciting going to the park!! (and its miles away from us!) Enjoy!

WarriorsDance · 21/06/2017 22:10

It's a lovely idea, especially in this heat.

SofaToad · 21/06/2017 22:15

We have a garden but sometimes we go and buy a takeaway and sit on a park bench on a nice evening.

Enjoy it while the weather is dry enough.

SweetLuck · 21/06/2017 22:18

That's what parks are for!

Rockhopper81 · 21/06/2017 22:23

I live opposite a big park, lots of flats on the roads surrounding it - lots of people do this in the summer! People were there with gazebos up over the weekend.

Go for it - it's what they were made for, as PPs have said. Smile

ohtheholidays · 21/06/2017 22:24

Go for it,were very lucky in that we have a garden but we've done the same and had our dinner at a lovely park that has a huge paddling pool and that one is a 20 minute driver from us and we weren't the only familys there,we stayed till about 8pm and the DC had a brilliant time playing with all the other children there and they all slept really well that night.

Easy picnic dinners
Chicken drumsticks, plain, chinese,BBq or a bit of spice served with a couple of different salads and some crusty bread

Quiche, some potatoe salad or cold new potatoes and a green salad.

A nice ploughmans

Another one our DC like is DIY wraps,we fill some little tubs cooked chicken, cooked peppers, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, bean salad(what ever kinds of things your DC like)and we take some wraps and they make they're own. They enjoy making they're own and it stops them from going soggy.

A nice fruit salad or some strawberries topped with some yogurt,or freeze some of the tube yogurts for pudding.

I'd forgot all about doing this before with our DC Southern so thanks for starting this thread Smile we've had some awful news today and I think dinner out at a park might be just what our 5DC need.

PippaFawcett · 21/06/2017 23:26

We do this all the time. Plus it stops the house getting trashed in the couple of hours between pick up and bedtime = win/win for us!
