Ring tone alerts not working on phone - can anyone help please?

Hello everyone.

Boring AIBU but just posting for traffic if that's okay.

I've checked that my phone is on full volume, and it seems to be working fine. When I set an alarm, I have a clear and audible alarm tone, but my ring tone or message alerts aren't working. They don't sound at all.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks very much in advance :)

I'm a little bit techno-challenged, but I'll give it a shot. What type of phone is it you use?

TheSpottedZebra · 20/06/2017 23:26

Have you checked the specific settings for both call and message alerts?

computerscream · 20/06/2017 23:27

Accidentally put it on do not disturb?

TheSpottedZebra · 20/06/2017 23:27

Just yo check - are calls coming through, but just not making a sound?

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 20/06/2017 23:37

Thanks everyone for your replies! :)

Zebra, calls are coming through but they're all silent. I've checked the sound alerts, but they all seem to be working fine.

computer I wondered if I might've put it on 'don't disturb', but I've checked and it doesn't look like it.

Fleetwood it's an iPhone 5S.

On the top left hand side (i think) there is a small switch which controls whether the phone is on silent. Is it switched up?

FleetwoodMacDonalds · 20/06/2017 23:42

This switch here (hopefully the pic attaches!!)

Have you set the phone to 'mute'?

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 20/06/2017 23:45

Fleetwood you're a genius!!! Smile thanks so much!

My 5s was doing similar yesterday - wouldn't ping for messages but seems to have sorted itself out today (fingers crossed)

FleetwoodMacDonalds · 20/06/2017 23:46

Otherwise try this:
Settings
General
Accessibility

There should be a bit under Hearing that says "Mono Audio". Check that it is on white.

Hope that helps!

Try

Settings
General
Accessibility
Assistive touch

You get a gray floating box appear

Go to device and check 'mute' is not mute!

GreenTulips · 20/06/2017 23:51

Whoops x-ppst

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 20/06/2017 23:53
