Facebook birthday posts

There seems to be a growing trend that when it's someone's birthday on Facebook, it's no longer enough to post on their wall or send them a message saying happy birthday. Instead you have to post a status on your own feed and tag them in it, with a collage of 12 pictures of you both, captioned something like 'happy birthday to my bestie' (probably one of 20 people they have claimed is their bestie that year), and alluding to some kind of hilarious in-joke.

AIBU to think this is just making someone else's birthday about you, and also a kind of weird friendship competition (translation: I'M YOUR BEST FRIEND WE'VE SHARED ALL THESE MEMORIES DON'T FORGET IT)?

Or am I a grumpy old (by Facebook standards) woman? Grin

None of that happening on mine.

Just 'Happy Birthday' and some kind of emoji.

I find it irritating too, but that may be because I have no friends so no one does this on my birthday Grin

Hate the birthday thing on Facebook. Might click a like it if it was a friend that I might not see much. Someone I see regularly I would (having been reminded on FB) wish them a happy birthday in person or asked if they had a good time, but wouldn't usually write on their timeline. I will join you in grumpy old woman corner!

Oh yes, I find it annoying too. My DHs cousin (16) will tag her one of her several hundreds of 'best friends' almost daily to say happy birthday. Usually along with a dozen photos, and a long post about all the times they've had together Grin.
