To be so attached to my car?

My car has broken down on he way home tonight. The garage are towing it and looking at it to tell me what's wrong, but it's not looking or sounding good.
I love that bloody car. I've had it 10 years from new and it was a bargain as it was ex-display so (at the time) it was a very high spec. It's just a standard make/model, not a flashy car, not fast, not big, but I've named it and loved it and had it serviced constantly and kept it clean.

I don't want a new car. I want my car. AIBU? Can I perhaps do a Lorelei Gilmore and buy a new engine and put it in my old car and keep it for another 10 years or will I look totally bonkers?

10 years is not much for a car to have a catastrophic breakdown. Are you sure it cannot be fixed?
For the record we have three cars, one is 7 years old, one is 10 and one is 29 years old!

Yanbu, I love my car(s) too. I say cars because I haven't been able to bear to part with my first one - I bought it new in 2003 and I love it, despite the fact it's now not very reliable and I had to buy a newer car to commute 4 hours a day in as my little old one kept breaking. I hate being so sentimental about it but that's me! Even my newer one - have had it 5 years now - I dread having to ever part with! I hope the garage manage to fix your lovely car!
