My idiot neighbours have lit a bonfire... it's a bloody heatwave out there already, why the fuck are they sitting there toasting marshmallows?!

MrsWire · 17/06/2017 20:10

Because they can do want they want?

VerityHabitat · 17/06/2017 20:11

😂
Do you live in Schittsville? That sounds like something that would happen on that program.

I am with you, OP, WTF are they doing?

BandeauSally · 17/06/2017 20:16

Practising for the twelfth? Grin

Raggydolly3 · 17/06/2017 20:17

Check if you are in a smokeless zone. A lot of places are now

user1495884620 · 17/06/2017 20:28

www.gov.uk/smoke-control-area-rules

Bonfires, barbecues etc aren't affected by smoke free zones.

ILookedintheWater · 17/06/2017 20:46

We have loads of fencing and hedge trimmings to burn. All our neighbours are lighting barbecues and the entire village smells of lighter fuel and that fake seasoning that supermarkets put on cheap chops to make them Chinese or Mexican or whatever.
Obviously no-one will have their washing out in this evil chemical fug, so I suggested to DH that we get the burner out and get rid of all the old wood. He's in your camp OP: apparently lighter fuel/evil chemical food stuffs are not objectionable but woodsmoke is. Gah...I'd love a s'more right now!

If you can't beat them, join them. Have a party! Invite everyone you know, even those weird second cousins. Fun for all the family!

twofingerstoEverything · 17/06/2017 20:52

Because they can do want they want?

Yeah. Screw everyone else. Consideration for others can fuck right off.

mathanxiety · 17/06/2017 20:55

Sounds like fun.

Fire pits are very popular where I live and we get really hot summers. People sit around way into the night, having a drink, toasting marshmallows, playing a little music...

Life is too short to get your knickers in a twist about other people doing things that are actually quite civilised.

But most places with very hot summers have some concessions to the heat such as air conditioned homes, etc.

We are just left to swelter and roast when it is hot as we aren't "set up" for it.

If you aren't miserable all day then it makes sense to enjoy a Bon fire. If you are a melty moany puddle of sweat then a bonfire seems positively barmy.

Truckingalong · 17/06/2017 21:07

Hhmmm, are you somewhere in cheshire op by any chance cos my bloody stupid neighbour has done the same today and ash has been raining down on everyone's garden and smoking billowing everywhere.

Natsku · 17/06/2017 21:10

Love cooking over a fire on a hot day. After you've been sat next to the hot fire for a while it feels cooler elsewhere. Never use lighter fluid though, that stuff reeks.

claraelsa · 17/06/2017 21:43

trucking funnily enough, yes. Small village on a hill.

OP posts:
Crispbutty · 17/06/2017 21:44

Smoke keeps the midgies away though. We had a chiminea going last night.

MotherOfBeagles · 17/06/2017 21:48

I'm with you OP it drives me nuts, especially when you've got washing hung out! Have to bring it all in and shut all the windows Angry

Mamabear14 · 17/06/2017 21:57

Rather than have a fire mine have got all their windows open, all the family over and are incapable of speaking in less than a zillion decibels. Honestly they are SHOUTING so loud and they have a toddler who's awake still and crying due to it all whereas mine is asleep (for now)
I need to win the lotto and buy somewhere with no neighbours Grin

DestinationSofa · 17/06/2017 21:59

Vile mine are just trashed

Magicpaintbrush · 17/06/2017 22:11

Brilliant. So now there is bonfire smoke coming in through your windows ... leaving you with the option of having your home reeking of smoke or shutting all your windows on the hottest day of the year. Why are some neighbours so fucking inconsiderate??? I feel for you OP, that is shit of your neighbours.

claraelsa · 17/06/2017 22:58

I'll have a bonfire myself tomorrow perhaps when they have hung their laundry out as I've got some hedge clippings to get rid of. Tempting.....
they are often inconsiderate as they are very noisy.

There's 2 of the buggers then, as I'm not in a village on a hill!
