Neighbours BBQ

We got new neighbours a few months ago. On the whole I find them mildly irritating, waving at me when I'm sat in my living room, talking to through the missing slats in the fence they were meant to replace, building work at 10pm, ect. All minor stuff but I just want to be left alone when I'm in my own home.

They are fans of BBQing and use theres regularly. Never had a problem with this ever but they have put their charcoal BBQ (I wouldn't have a problem if it was a gas BBQ) within a meter of the house (and my patio door). They have just lit up, leaving me with no option than to close all of my back windows and doors in this roasting hot weather!

AIBU to think that anyone with any consideration would put this further down the garden!?

A gas barb cue is ta. A revue at all it's onoutside grill. Also, they tend to need to be near the house for convenience of cooking. If your patio door is near theirs the issue us inevitable. Barbecues Only smoke for a bit so I think closing all your lira and windows might not be strictly necessary. Most of the other irritating stuff isn't bad either - I think you St or be suited to living in a street.

cardibach · 17/06/2017 18:18

Might not be suited. Stupid iPad.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/06/2017 18:31

Was just thinking it looked like great bbq weather. And only charcoal is a real bbq...

boilingchub · 17/06/2017 18:32

I couldn't agree more. Just not a meter away from my living room

cardibach · 17/06/2017 18:35

But if that's where their patio is, what do you expect?

crocodilesoup · 17/06/2017 18:39

Is the rest of the garden paved? They can't stick it on grass. Watch out or they'll ask you round to join them, you'd hate that!

boilingchub · 17/06/2017 18:41

Sorry cardibach I could make sense of your first post?

My only problem is that it's pushed up to our partitioning fence and against the house wall. So literally couldn't be any closer to my house if they tried.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have it on there patio. But that extends a lot further away from the house.

BBQs go at the bottom of the garden, I don't care how inconvenient that is for the BBQers, their desire to have a BBQ shouldn't mean their neighbours having to close all their windows and doors and take their washing in. We used to have neighbours who BBQd every time there was a ray of sunshine, right outside their back door which meant pretty much right outside ours (and under our bedroom window, and right beside the washing line). 70 foot garden at their disposal but no, they can't be expected to walk to the end of it, but I am expected to put my washing through again and close all my windows on a hot day. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

But you'll never get the BBQing massive to understand how antisocial their desire for singed meat is OP, so I'd give up now, pour yourself a stiff drink and hope for a rainy summer!

AmberStClare · 17/06/2017 18:52

OP you need to hose your garden don't you? All those plants just by the missing fence slats.

CrownOfPrawns · 17/06/2017 19:09

I love the smell of a barbecue.

StealthNinjaMum · 17/06/2017 19:14

Yanbu if I had a barbecue I would put it in the place that irritated my neighbours the least. It's just so thoughtless to put it against your fence if it can be further away.

TwigTheWonderKid · 17/06/2017 19:15

So what did they say when you popped round and politely explained the situation?

blankface · 17/06/2017 19:25

I love the smell of a barbecue

I detest it (vegetarian).

cardibach · 17/06/2017 19:37

I can see my first post has a couple of autocorrect nightmares in it, one of which I corrected. I don't believe you can't work it out, but here you go.

OK?
There are some really anti social people on MN, including some of the posters on this thread.

crocodilesoup · 17/06/2017 19:49

Blankface we've just had a very pleasant veggie barbecue.

ThePinkOcelot · 17/06/2017 19:57

I like the smell of BBQ more than actually eating it.
Do you think they realise it OP? Could you maybe have a word?

VeryButchyRestingFace · 17/06/2017 20:04

I really struggled, and I ❤️ BBQs.
