To expect some bloody manners from sky engineer??

I am really annoyed with my sky engineer!

I have swapped my living room and dining room around and need my sky to moved so I arranged for an engineer to do it. We are rented and I wanted to make sure it was done correctly so I don't annoy my landlord with wires everywhere.

He turned up today and said I have an issue with my sky box, I said yes it's in the wrong room. I need it moved and the wiring done. (This was all mentioned when I booked with sky.) So he looked annoyed. I showed him where the wires were and where I wanted the sky box moved to, showed him where the dish was and the wires outside. He said he had to pop to his van be right back. But he didn't come back!

Had a call from sky to rearrange as the engineer had called and said my house was too untidy to do anything!!

  1. I didn't know what he planned to do so didn't clear out the rooms (go through rooms with wires or drill from outside into new room)
  2. the only things that would have been in his way were plastic toy boxes my 3 year old can move!!

I just can't believe he got in his van, rang sky to rearrange and drove off! He didn't have the decency to talk to me! If he had said he'd need to re arrange for whatever reason fine, but to just disappear??? Asshole!!!

Sorry, that rant helped!!!

Wow. Rude!

ineedamoreadultieradult · 15/06/2017 15:10

Yeah that is shit. I book engineers (not for sky for gas and electric meters) and they usually go out of their way to help even if the wrong job has been booked in. All he had to do was ask you to move stuff!

pinkyredrose · 15/06/2017 15:11

He shouldn't have vanished but you should have made sure the rooms were clear. He may not have been allowed to move anything himself contractually, ie. If an engineer moved something and the customer later said theyd damaged it then what happens, where's the proof it was or wasn't damaged before and the customer isn't trying to claim a quick buck?

Huffletuff · 15/06/2017 15:16

That's appalling. Rooms don't have to be clear - people often have Sky installed on moving in day when there are boxes and other things everywhere. As long as he had access to the cables etc it shouldn't have been a problem.

I had a similar issue when I sent my old dog car in for MOT, went to pick it up after work and they said the mechanic wouldn't do it as it smelled of dog. It was a bloody dog car which was explained to them when I booked it. Said mechanic had gone home and I didn't even have the courtesy of a phone call. Car was then illegal to drive as it ran out that day.

RB68 · 15/06/2017 15:20

I think he is totally unreasonable - esp as he hadn't asked for anything to be cleared. Sometimes they are just asshats that can't be bothered with the job - we had one Friday at 4pm, drove onto our drive - blocking our entry as we were car behind him, tapped on his phone and he reversed out and went to leave. DH was in the house and I was blocking his exit and he was blocking my access to drive. He started mouthing off at me for being in the way and I just said are you the engineer for 4pm. He said yes but you are too late I already knocked and no answer - at which point DH clicked what was going on and came out. I knew he hadn't knocked the door, DH did and so did he so he got right arsey. We let him go as didn't want him in the house and complained to sky and told them not to send him again

eynesbury · 15/06/2017 15:22

You say just a few plastic toy boxes.... is that honestly true though? He might have a different version of events

NotTodayBillyRay · 15/06/2017 15:47

Of course I'm sure, would you like a bloody photo?? Hmm

My 3 year old is constantly moving her boxes from where they should be and I could have moved them if he had asked!! They're not heavy!!

He could have said he couldn't do it today because of toy boxes in his way and could they be moved before next appointment but he didn't bother to talk to me!

I expected him to drill from outside and put new wires through to be honest.

Hotpinkangel19 · 15/06/2017 16:22

Why didn't you just pick the toy boxes up and move them when he said they needed moving?

Hotpinkangel19 · 15/06/2017 16:23

Sorry, I just read you thought he should have said this! Rude man!

Lasagna · 15/06/2017 16:41

I would call up sky and threaten to cancel because of their poor customer service. It will give them a kick to make coming back out to you a priority.

Pemba · 15/06/2017 17:07

Some of them can be like this - they just want as easy a life as possible and to move onto the next job. Two or three years ago my parents (in their 70s) had Sky installed, and the engineer told them that because the wires had to go through the middle of their house or something, that it wouldn't be possible to do a 'dual feed' (I think it may be called that, might have got the terminology wrong) - so that you can watch one programme whilst recording another. I thought that was one of the main points of having Sky! Not knowing any better, they just accepted this, even though they have all the movies and Sports channels, the works.

However recently something the Sky dish got knocked out of place, a new engineer came and fixed it and made it dual feed, and said he had no idea what the first engineer had been on about! Just laziness I presume, and taking advantage of older customers.

GeorgeTheHamster · 15/06/2017 17:11

Yes of course we'd like a photo, this is MN!

khajiit13 · 15/06/2017 17:18

He's in the wrong job

INeedANameChange · 15/06/2017 17:35

They're twats.

I booked sky TV back in early March - guess what - still haven't had my fucking sky installed!!!

The first time the precious little snowflake engineer refused to work in the house because there were other workmen there.

The next time the engineer phoned in sick and they had nobody to cover the work.

The last two times, nobody's even bothered showing up. We're apparently rebooked for the end of July Hmm

They're absolute bastards.

Allthebestnamesareused · 15/06/2017 17:43

You do realise you don't need to book sky engineers to do this. You can use a local decent aerials guy. We use a local company and they have sorted out a system where we have 2 boxes linked and they send both boxes to all TVs in the house so we can watch from either box in any room there is a TV.

The local aerials man is cheaper too and more flexible about times etc.

wisteriainbloom · 15/06/2017 17:44

They all drive like idiots near me too.

wisteriainbloom · 15/06/2017 17:46

I had a similar issue when I sent my old dog car in for MOT, went to pick it up after work and they said the mechanic wouldn't do it as it smelled of dog

That is the most bizarre excuse ever, what a knob.

ajandjjmum · 15/06/2017 17:50

Sky are crap but their engineers have been nothing but helpful. One of them we had here today even moved crap off my drawer unit so that he could fit everything. Blush We've obviously been lucky.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 15/06/2017 18:00

We upgraded to Sky Q a few months ago. The engineer moved the tv stand by himself so that he could access the back of the tv and connect the box. My house was really quite untidy on the day he came.
And I kept him waiting 10 minutes as I wasn't in when he arrived.
Sounds like you were just unlucky in getting such an unhelpful engineer.
