I was looking up children's party food ideas so and came across this lovely suggestion below. I didn't realise that certain drinks were 'for girls' or that children had to consume drinks dependent on their gender - unless they're "impressively metrosexual' of course!

"For small gatherings of girls (and impressively wannabe-metrosexual boys), you could venture down the "exotic fruit cocktail" route"

It's so alarmingly stupid I'm not even sure what to say about it!

slightlyglitterbrained · 15/06/2017 08:52

Ewww. Telling little boys that they shouldn't like fun drinks because they have to protect their macho image.

That's mean.

rockshandy · 15/06/2017 08:53

Wow.

chumpchange · 15/06/2017 08:53

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious. Then they grow up and we wonder how to attract more men into traditionally female occupations and vice versa. Conveniently forgetting that we began their indoctrination as early as we possibly could.

Bit of a shame MN.

Shock
CheeseOfHearts · 15/06/2017 08:58

Jesus. What would the opposite be? "For small groups of boys (and potential lesbians) serve coke made to look like pints of John Smiths"?

IamHereButAreYouThere · 15/06/2017 09:03

I wonder if MN are aware it says that. I think they'd change the wording or take it down if you report it to them.

Haha CheeseOfHearts. Grin

Awholelotofhot · 15/06/2017 09:17

How do you report something to them effectively? I've emailed before and never got a response back. I thought they might see this!

They will only see this if someone reports the thread, they can't read everything. If you have something you want to bring to the attention of MNHQ specifically, its best to start the thread under 'Site Stuff', I'm pretty sure they do read all those.

So I suggest you report your OP and ask them to move the thread to Site Stuff.

And yes, that cocktail suggestion is so something which if a poster put in a thread would hopefully be shredded.

specialsubject · 15/06/2017 09:46

Report it .I reported one of the endless stupid cupcake recipes headed ' guilt free'

I'm afraid the attitude that it is feminine to be thick does permeate the site.

Allthebestnamesareused · 15/06/2017 10:03

I will tell my husband who likes a pina colada that this week he is impressively wannabe metrosexual!

LornaMumsnet · 15/06/2017 10:06

Hi folks,

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention.

We've flagged this page to our content team (turns out it's quite an old article) and they are editing this right now. Sorry about that!

EdmundCleverClogs · 15/06/2017 10:11

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.

I couldn't help it, I laughed. It's so, so bad! Glad to hear it's being edited. Oh dear.

Didn't realise MN was going in the 1950sWink

BillSykesDog · 15/06/2017 10:19

Well we all know what happened to that there George Michael don't we? He had that drink with fruit and an umbrella in the Club Tropicana video and in the blink of an eye he was getting arrested for committing lewd acts in a public toilet in LA. If only they'd given him a pint of pale he'd have been assaulting underage schoolgirls in a travelodge like a proper popstar.

Be careful with those fruit based drinks ladies. Very dangerous gateway drug.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/06/2017 10:30

Didn't realise MN was going in the 1950s

Be fair - I think the 1950s version would have been 'camp' not IWM (which I'm sort of hoping becomes an irony-heavy acronym)

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 15/06/2017 11:00

Sorry to ask but was does "IWM" mean?

chumpchange · 15/06/2017 11:17

Impressively Wannabe-Metrosexual Grin ifyougodown

Awholelotofhot · 15/06/2017 11:46

Impressively Wannabe Metrosexual - my new phrase of choice!
