He's got influence with the regional government apparently, which is why they haven't just gone ahead and bulldozed his place down

LowFatMilkshake · 20/03/2007 11:48

Excellent - hope someone nearby agrees and sends him some food parcels now!

Ceebee74 · 20/03/2007 11:50

It reminds me of the farmhouse in the middle of the M62 - the owner refused to sell so they had to build the motorway round his house/land

powder28 · 20/03/2007 12:02

Fair enough, if they want him out they will have to pay it.

nickytwotimes · 20/03/2007 12:04

fantastic! good on him!

KathyMCMLXXII · 20/03/2007 12:05

Isn't there a miners' retirement home on the seafront in Bournemouth which is a bit like that - a little terrace surrounded by big glitzy developments?

HEIFER · 20/03/2007 12:07

do you think tesco will delivery.

How about dominos, bet the delivery men would have great fun on their bikes on that hill

helenhismadwife · 20/03/2007 13:44

UnquietDad · 20/03/2007 14:50

How does he get in and out?? Does he abseil?

ash6605 · 20/03/2007 15:02

HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU GET A PUSHCHAIR UP THAT BANK?!

Catbabymummy · 20/03/2007 15:12

The thing about the M62 isn't true. The house, actually sits in a deep hollow. The ground being so soft, meant that MacAlpine (the contruction company) had to build the two carriageways quite a distance apart, to allow them to do the strengthening work. They compulsory purchased the land surrounding the farm, but did not need the farm itself - in fact if they had they would have need a huge amount of spoil in order to fill the hollow it sits in at prohibitive cost. Apparently, the ground is so soft that MacAlpine managed to lose a full sized digger which sank into the ground!

Ceebee74 · 20/03/2007 15:35

Thanks Cat - I was always under the impression that the farmer was a stubborn bugger who refused to sell (no idea where I got that impression from)

Gingermonkey · 20/03/2007 15:47

I'm disappointed. My friend's mum (who helped design that road) told me he had been offered loads of money but chose to stay. Now my illusions are shattered...

Twiglett · 21/03/2007 12:13

oh boo .. I grew up with the M62 refuse to sell story and often went past it with a wry grin on my face

Catbabymummy · 21/03/2007 19:11

Sorry to spoil your illusions, I thought the same, but my saddo road enthuiast husband set me straight... do you know that the men have their own website dedicated to roads and they talk about stuff like their favourite junctions

totaleclipse · 21/03/2007 19:21

I feel sorry for the postman
