Festivals

Went to festival this weekend (IOW clearly).

At the risk of sounding like a fucking old fart. I was really quite shocked and saddened that despite there being plenty of rubbish disposal points and toilets people (probs a small majorly) behaved like animals just pissing wherever they felt like it and dumping rubbish where they stood. People in the next tent just left all their cans scattered all around their tents (I cleaned it up once as some of it was blowing over to us - but didn't again after they started pissing everywhere all over peoples tents Hmm).

Surely just because "it's a festival" it doesn't excuse common decency and acceptable behaviour in public or am I totally out of touch?

I hated this about festivals and actually yeah I think people do go so they can behave like animals pissing everywhere like its some kind of fetish!

Piss bottles kicked around crowds too

DirtyDancing · 12/06/2017 21:23

The minority who do this are usually off their tits on drugs and don't give a dam. Basically

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 21:24

Biffs were handing out rubbish bags too - there was no excuse.

Don't understand why you would pay 200 odd quid to behave like a cunt Sad

The further I get through life, the more sharply I realise that people can be absolute downright animals!

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 21:28

Yeah - it's depressing Sad

YANBU. I've been to Kendal Calling for the past 7/8 years. I've been to Latitude a couple of times, Glasto a couple of times, even V when I was younger! I'm used to seeing people having a piss up against a tree/in a hedge, but last year at KC was the first year I saw anyone, at any festival, pissing in the crowd in front of a stage. And I saw it at least once a day over the weekend. All blokes who were so drunk they could barely stand. Absolutely disgusting.

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 21:34

There were people puking too Hmm

There were troughs for the guys but blokes stood a few feet away pissing on the grass.

If I went again I would go into the Respect field.

Glasto have official groups of people who go around and make a big fuss if they catch someone peeing not in a loo. I once saw a late teen girl standing next to a man in his 50s who was peeing in a hedge, pointing at him and saying loudly 'you can't do that, here pee in this cup instead and throw it in the bin. Fred, look, this guy is peeing in the hedge etc etc etc' He looked VERY embarrassed, and I bet he didn't do it again!

crunched · 12/06/2017 21:35

Am I being naive in asking if there are 'piss free' areas?
I am kind of obliged to go to a festival this August, but would go a bit Confused if anyone pisses on my stuff.

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 21:37

No there aren't crunched tbf security were excellent and did come and tell them off and we also saw people being removed (after a warning) but I didn't want to be responsible for getting someone kicked out.

Roll on the summer...

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 22:00

I think you can get them removed if they piss on your stuff Grin

I would suggest keeping a mini deodorant in your bag to give a quick squirt when you get into the loo Grin

Every festival I go to my tent ends up being used as a urinal. When they soaked through my emergency wine box last year I decided it'd be my last. Bastards.

Gindrinker43 · 12/06/2017 22:11

The disgusting loos at IW Festival are the reason I can't bring myself to go anymore. At over 40 with 2 DC I can't hold on for hours any more Confused

gottaloveascamhun · 12/06/2017 22:13

I saw a photo online of tents and piles of rubbish left behind after a festival. People didn't bothervtaking their tents home, just left them and all their crap behind for someone else to remove for them. So wasteful.

PookieDo · 12/06/2017 22:18

V fest is very bad
I imagine more family orientated festivals have less of this.

People pissed on our tents, in bottles then threw them, in bottles then kicked them around in crowds, on the floor next to where you were standing watching the main stage (multiple times men just pissed where they stood)
Girls would go out in the open too, the tree near the food area became just a repulsive area to go near.
I paid something like £2 to go in the composting toilets which had no queue so I didn't feel the need to wait until I was desperate then get my fanjo out amongst 100,000 people in a field.

GirlOnATrainToShite · 12/06/2017 22:26

The toilets are a bit minging but I took a spray, anti bac and wipes in a small bag - if I had a poo I sprayed before I left for the next person.

The loos were cleaned every day though tbf.

I couldn't do a larger, more mainstream festival these days with filthy toilets, litter and wasted people that was me once. Smaller festivals are the way forward! We went to End of the Road last year and the toilets were pristine and there was no rubbish around the campsites or most of the festival site. It was lovely from start to finish. I fully appreciate that makes me an old git but I'm past caring!

MaidOfStars · 12/06/2017 22:30

We've decamped to Benicassim. Much more civilised festivals on the continent.

I went to reading festival years back, and the lighting system failed on one of the evening. As a result, they wouldn't let anyone use the toilets as they couldn't see what people were doing in the area. So 'for our own safety'... it was not a good time.

PookieDo · 12/06/2017 22:38

There aren't a great deal of bushes in some of the places I have been to festivals so it's not just like you can avoid a bush, people are just doing it willy nilly.
And taking nice stuff for the toilet - you have to carry that around all day in the heat btw, and also it doesn't do anything to help the Pissers who still piss everywhere anyway!

KoolKoala07 · 12/06/2017 22:48

This why I can't bring myself to go to a festival.
At v, a girl I used to know saw another girl have poo land of her arm after some disgusting pigs threw it around.

Capattack · 12/06/2017 23:00

The pissing in hedges I can deal with.

The people in the crowd who piss in cups and throw them over their heads to liberally sprinkle on everyone behind them, not so much.

I missed IOW this year so remembering the bad times is helping!

Pinkheart5919 · 12/06/2017 23:05

It's the few that ruin it for the rest.

Last camping car show/music festival weekend me & dh went too, we caught a few people weeing on our hot rod, wine bottles & beer cans scattered in many places ( despite plenty of bins around) and someone had actually had a poo on the toilet floor why? I mean they were right next to the toilet.

I think some people are just selfish & don't care if they ruin it for others some are just knobs when drunk I guess
