To have a crush on J K Rowling?

I just love J K Rowling's response to fellow British author John Nevin who posted a tweet on Friday in which he called Theresa May a whore:

"Just unfollowed a man whom I thought was smart and funny, because he called Theresa May a whore.

If you can’t disagree with a woman without reaching for all those filthy old insults, screw you and your politics.

I’m sick of "liberal" men whose mask slips every time a woman displeases them, who reach immediately for crude and humiliating words associated with femaleness, act like old-school misogynists and then preen themselves as though they’ve been brave.

When you do this, Mr Liberal Cool Guy, you ally yourself, wittingly or not, with the men who send women violent pornographic images and rape threats, who try by every means possible to intimidate women out of politics and public spaces, both real and digital.

Whore and, naturally, rape. We’re too ugly to rape, or we need raping, or we need raping and killing.

Every woman I know who has dared express an opinion publically has endured this kind of abuse at least once, rooted in an apparent determination to humiliate or intimidate her on the basis that she is female.

If you want to know how much fouler it gets if you also happen to be black or gay, ask Diane Abbot or Ruth Davidson.

I don’t care whether we’re talking about Theresa May or Nicola Sturgeon or Kate Hooey or Yvette Cooper or Hillary Clinton.

Femaleness is not a design flaw. If your immediate response to a woman who displeases you is to call her a synonym for her vulva, or compare her to a prostitute, then drop the pretence and own it - you’re not a liberal.

You’re a few short steps away from some guy hiding behind a cartoon frog."

Bravo that lady! But a shame it needed saying in the first place.

I think she is absolutely amazing. Was curious to find out who it was she was speaking about.

He's not a very smart cookie going by his Wikipedia page - when working for a record label he turned down the chance to sign both Coldplay and Muse!

Sounds like a good response but not keen on her and her views on Scottish independence.

Calyrical · 11/06/2017 20:28

I find her a bit irritating Blush

Almostfifty · 11/06/2017 20:29

I think she's brilliant.

AgentProvocateur · 11/06/2017 20:30

I agree with everything she said. For the sake of accuracy though, it's John Niven (just in case there's an actual author called John Nevin who's wrongly being labelled as a misogynist!)

Babbitywabbit · 11/06/2017 20:30

I wouldn't go so far as a crush, but I respect almost all her views. She speaks a lot of sense

CaveMum · 11/06/2017 20:30

Her trolling of Piers Morgan on Twitter was epic though!

I love, love, love JK. Especially for this. I just had a similar row with a bloke on FB circulating a picture likening May to a blow up doll with an open mouth to be f**d. Just bleurgh. I am a dyed in the wool leftie, but there is a nasty sexist streak in Labour which needs addressing. I grew up in the NE in the 1970s and its like nothing has changed.

SwiftAnchor · 11/06/2017 20:40

I used to really like her, thought she was a good ambassador for charities etc.

But some of her political views annoyed me. I also hate the way she compares things to Harry Potter, I mean I get that it's her thing and how she became famous but it was becoming ridiculous. Although some of the parody tweets leading on from that were quite funny!

Meh, I can differ from someone politically and still admire them. I am more sympathetic to Nats than JK, but I really respect her opinion. And I love her take downs!
