Breastfeeding and laxatives?

AreWeThereYet000 · 11/06/2017 11:34

Hey, since having my baby 14 weeks ago I've really struggled to go to the toilet, I end up bloated, swollen and in pain for days.

I've tried lactulose which is safe in breastfeeding and while that makes it easier to go when I go, it's not making me go if you see what I mean...

So is taking a regular laxative okay to do? Usually take Asda's own previously as they are cheap and work

Thanks

What does it say on the box? Usually it would say not to use if breast feeding, remember what you take baby eats so I personally wouldn't. Drink prune juice or orange juice this always gives me a clear out! Grin

Fybogel is fine

Haha it just says consult doctor if breastfeeding and they just keep prescribing lactulose ha! I'll try the orange juice and fybogel, thanks x

Lactulose works by drawing water to the bowel. So it's competing with your lactation process for fluid if you're BFing. It might. E worth upping your fluid for a day while continuing with it, to see if that helps.

Try 300g of prunes. Do not leave the house.

Buy some glycerin suppositories. Read the instructions. Use them. Usually work in 20 mins. Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for micro-lax.

Glass of prune juice every night will sort you out. Also up fluids anyway as this helps. Can also try psyllium husks for fibre.

Sorry for the late replies I've not been on all day, I've been drinking loads as for some reason breastfeeding makes me sooooo thirsty! Micro Lax sounds a good option, although I'm tempted to go shopping for prunes. It's just so painful! ,
