To want a toaster that makes toast...

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 10/06/2017 20:42

...and not charcoal??

WHY do toasters have a dial that goes up to 6? Mine makes pleasantly browned toast at setting 1. Setting 2 makes something very brown, dry and likely to set off the smoke detector. Anything done above setting 2 comes out black and inedible.

What exactly is the purpose of any setting above "well done"???

(And if anyone can recommend a toaster that can just do "light, medium and dark" without setting my breakfast on fire I'd love to hear about it.)

I use the high settings to toast frozen bread, potato waffles and fishfingers.

PinkSnowAndStars · 10/06/2017 20:48

Duelit

Love my Duelit

JaneEyre70 · 10/06/2017 20:54

We've got a Dualit, it cost nearly £200 and it's fecking useless. It cremates everything it touches as the heat is so intense. You have to literally stand over it and watch....I've spent so much money on bread that goes in the bin, and don't even start me on the smoke detector Hmm

SaltySalt · 10/06/2017 20:55

I use the high settings for hash browns and crumpets

Toffeelatteplease · 10/06/2017 20:58

Another vote for duelit

Also no cool down before it "pops" (of course its a duelit so it doesnt pop you just raise the handle). So genuinely hot toast. And you can raise the toast mid way through to check it so you get perfect toast.

And they last forever. 10 years and counting...

Whitelisbon · 10/06/2017 20:59

I just want one that toasts an entire slice of bread, without me having to turn it round, so that I end up with the middle well done, and the ends barely toasted.
I swear at the fucker almost every time I use it.

chitofftheshovel · 10/06/2017 21:00

I always double toast my crumpets, had never thought of turning the dial up. This has been a revelation to my poor little brain!

GiraffesCantPlayHopScotch · 10/06/2017 21:00

My toaster fires toast out and aims it across the room

MumBod · 10/06/2017 21:01

Mine shits crumbs Sad

MargotMoon · 10/06/2017 21:12

Mine vibrates when it touches anything else and sounds like it's going to take off Hmm

AgainstTheOddsNo2 · 10/06/2017 21:16

Revelation is that the numbers are minutes! Not cook settings. 1-2 mins is plenty!

outabout · 10/06/2017 21:19

My 'Tesco' cheap toaster is 'kind of OK' and manages reasonable toast. It was only £3.99 so what do you expect? Other cheap toasters are available!

ChildishGambino · 10/06/2017 21:23

Whitelisbon I totally agree

RoseVase2010 · 10/06/2017 21:31

Get a Dualit, after 3x exploding Bosch ones we forked out for the 4 slice one. GAME CHANGER

tinkerbellone · 10/06/2017 21:31

Mumbod made me laugh out loud. Mine does too Grin

RoseVase2010 · 10/06/2017 21:31

Revelation is that the numbers are minutes! Not cook settings. 1-2 mins is plenty!

Urban legend, sorry!

Hope this comes out but might not - behold - the satanic toaster

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 10/06/2017 22:01

It's astonishing that we have gadgets that can stream films and music, find directions to anywhere you want to go, do the hoovering for you while you're out, control your heating and lights so they come on while you're on your way home...

...but we still don't have a machine that can make toast properly.

OP posts:
pearlydewdropsdrop · 10/06/2017 22:19

to the poster who says she has to turn toast to get both ends done...slice it in half before toasting!

outabout · 10/06/2017 22:30

Yes you can, he's called Sven*, he is 22 fair hair and he can do lots of things!

  • or any other name or nationality.
Smellbellina · 10/06/2017 22:32

Love my dualit. But my favourite toast ever is from under the grill in a caravan

ChildishGambino · 10/06/2017 22:37

Ooh Sven! Lol

I want a transparent one..like, really badly but DH says you'll just see all the crumbs. I'm gonna buy one anyway.

ChildishGambino · 10/06/2017 22:38

Now I want a caravan

ilovepixie · 10/06/2017 22:53

Why would anyone spend £200 on a toaster!!!

paddypants13 · 10/06/2017 23:12

I like my toast very well done so YABU. You are using the wrong setting for your preferred toast.
