Waiting to hear news on my ill dgm who is in hosp. Phone rang, I answered it was a man with a strong foreign accent asking about my "accident" so I gave him all the details, what my injuries were, kept him talking for ages, then when he asked the male and model of the car I was in at the time I took great joy in saying "oh no it wasn't a car accident, I fell off my sons skateboard!" He hung up on me but it gave me a chuckle.

These responses are much better than my usual confusion at the call. I must prepare some better answers!

ChristmasFluff · 10/06/2017 20:02

OMG, for all the times I just hung up when my Dad was dying, THANK YOU! Well done.

One day last week I got three calls from 'Microsoft' within a couple of hours. Usually I just hang up. On the last ocassion it went like this:

'Hello, this is Molly from Microsoft calling about your computer..'

'Hello Molly, how strange, this is the third call today, you guys are so concerned about my computer.'

'Yes, there is a problem with your computer.'

'Molly, before we go on do you mind if I ask you one question?'

'Er no?'

'Molly, do your parents know that you are employed as a thief?'

Molly was then cut off. I will keep this one up. I hate the bastards.

I have a little game with myself when I have time to see how long I can keep them on the phone for. My record is about 20 mins.

I also once told a windows sales man (not computer windows, window windows) that I lived underground and had no windows, no internal doors either.

I liked the scene in Outnumbered where the 13 year old with the very deep voice happily kept a hopeful nuisance caller taking for ages.

Matilda always wanted to use that one, good for you. These people need to be shamed.

Sadly all I get is recordings so no one to abuse. Thank goodness for a call blocker.

GreenHariboBear · 10/06/2017 22:42

I have an app on my mobile called Truecaller that allows you to report spam calls. Numbers with a certain amount of reports get automatically blocked. It's brilliant!

UnconsideredTrifles · 11/06/2017 08:22

I had the car accident one the other day, I went with massively overblown 'oh my goodness thank you so much, nobody told me! Was I badly hurt?' They hung up too quickly, I was enjoying myself!

A friend of my DF kept a conservatory salesman on the phone for ages as they can "Put conservatorys pretty much anywhere these days with modern technology." Got to the end of the speil and salesman asks if they are interested. The answer...
"Yes, definitely, isnt it amazing they can put a conservatory on a 4th floor flat?"
Click...the line went dead.
