To think that UK voters should be ashamed of their apathetic ignorance?

Never heard of the DUP before today? Really, it's embarrassing.

Yet so many posters don't seem to find it that way. I'm a filthy foreigner and I literally know more about UK politics than many posters here.

AIBU to think that's really shameful?

I think your attitude is absolutely disgusting but if you want to hold that view then go for it?

DrSpin · 09/06/2017 20:46

Goady much?

MrsDustyBusty · 09/06/2017 20:48

Why? Do you think that there's any defense for an adult, literate person with Internet access to not even know which parties are standing for election to their own parliament?

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 09/06/2017 20:48

Your thread title is disgraceful and goady

shinyredbus · 09/06/2017 20:48

yes - YABU. hth.

msgrinch · 09/06/2017 20:49

Couldnt have said it better nostrings well said.

I know who they are, what they're about etc etc. Doesn't make me a superior being.

FluffyMcCloud · 09/06/2017 20:50

Lolz

MrsDustyBusty · 09/06/2017 20:50

It's not a question of superiority, it's a question of basic voter competence.

SpiritedLondon · 09/06/2017 20:51

I expect if we went to your country OP we would find people who are not informed or interested in politics in the same way you are. Or are you a superior race?

msgrinch · 09/06/2017 20:51

Oh off you fuck goady pants. You're being a tad bitchy now.

MyCalmX · 09/06/2017 20:51

Filthy foreigner Hmm

Well I'm a foreigner too and you can fuck off with your ridiculous slagging off. Not funny.

BeyondThePage · 09/06/2017 20:52

thing is, most of us have a vague idea of what parties are standing - but don't give a damn about the minority ones outside of our own domain.

Here the fight was Tory/Lib dem - there were 4 other parties on the ballot - can't remember who they were other than Labour and Green - none of them got more than 500 votes each.

Woo the DUP got 10 seats - but it is only now that that really matters to ANYONE outside NI at all.

DarthMaiden · 09/06/2017 20:52

Wow - lot of assumptions there.

I was very aware of the DUP and their quite frankly very right wing politics.

I'm in the UK and not Irish.

Highalert · 09/06/2017 20:53

Well they know who they are now. Mores the pity.

dementedpixie · 09/06/2017 20:53

I'd never heard of them. My bad!

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 09/06/2017 20:53

Christ what's happened to mumsnet? Nasty little toads everywhere it seems

Op did you just post to let us know how amazing you are..... or?

PortiaCastis · 09/06/2017 20:54

Well I'm competent enough to report this thread as being goady shite

zoemaguire · 09/06/2017 20:55

I must admit I was pretty amazed at the number of people I spoke to today who had literally no idea who the DUP were. Fair enough if you are under 30, at a pinch, but were all the over-30s fast asleep during the 1980s and 90s?! It's not like Iain Paisley was exactly a shy retiring kind of character.

DarthMaiden · 09/06/2017 20:55

I'm frankly worried about you.... "a filthy foreigner" I think you have self esteem issues......

ghostyslovesheets · 09/06/2017 20:55
Hmm
FloralTribute · 09/06/2017 20:55

Can't disagree with you, OP. But then the entire island of Ireland might as well be on the far side of Mars rather than nextvdoor for all the knowledge the average English person appears to have of it. (I'm exempting Scots and Welsh people because I've never spent much time in either.)

zoemaguire · 09/06/2017 20:56

The number of people on mn who do not have a basic grasp of irony is what is frankly worrying darth...

PickAChew · 09/06/2017 20:56

There's no need to be so rude and sneery.

I knew who the DUP were, as would many people who took even a vague interest in current affairs in the 90s or earlier, but I'm hardly going to pore over their manifesto or research them too deeply when I couldn't even vote for them if I wanted to.

Millennials are less likely to have heard much them, since the mainland media have been a lot less interested in NI over the past decade or so, though.

AntiopeofThemyscira · 09/06/2017 20:56

AIBU to think that's really shameful?

Don't be ridiculous.

msgrinch · 09/06/2017 20:56

Darth maybe the OP just means her personal hygiene is a bad as her attitude? Or most likely it's a continuation of her goadyness (is that a word?!) Grin
