Someone will look at the results of the election, realise that the country is split roughly in half and form a new party. It could be called the common sense party!

It could take a look at the manifestos of the Tories and labour and supply the middle ground. You know, it could say the Tories want to reduce corporation tax and labour want to scrap tuition fees so why don't we only reduce corporation tax on small businesses and use that to reduce tuition fees.

Or it could say that the Tories want to means test winter fuel payment and labour want free parking for patients at hospitals . Let's use one to pay for the other.

Obviously these are randomly selected from each side and someone much smarter than me would need to tie them together but don't you think it would be amazing. We could have the social policies of one with the saner spending plans of the other.

But that means waiting for the others to declare their opinions before writing your own manifesto!

YABU

What makes you think that Labour supported want a party that is a bit more right wing or that Tories want a party that is a bit more left wing?

Surely it is better when there is a defined difference between the basic ideologies of the two main parties?

Sounds a bit Centrist to me. Which would be pointless because I (and others, I suspect) voted Labour because they are much more left-wing than the Blairites.

Maybe not all would shagged but I am an eternal optimist. I would just love to see the Labour policies tempered with some sensible economic considerations so it wouldn't hugely increase the debt but at the same time I think the Tories are too focused on the economics and have lost site of the people their policies are affecting
