AIBU to vote tactically knowing the result is a foregone conclusion?

Was all up for voting tactically (lib dems). Am a Labour Party member, love JC and everything he's about. BUT, labour have never had a look in in this constituency. Lib dems have always come second but it's a safe Tory seat, with a majority of over 20,000, one of the biggest in the country.

All the vote tactically things going around say to vote lib dem in this area, but tbh there's no way the lib dems are going to unseat the tories. So I'm thinking voting with my heart is the way forward, even though it's definitely pissing in the wind. At least it will make some kind of statement to the PLP and therefore count for something.

I really don't know what to do.

Vote for who you'd like to see in power. Sometimes results can be surprising.

YesILikeItToo · 07/06/2017 21:32

That's not a tactical voting situation by the sound of it!

Brittbugs80 · 07/06/2017 21:34

Some people voted Ukip tactically then Ukip saw this as people actually wanting them to run the country.

Rather than voting tactically, spoil your vote. It still counts as a vote but makes a stronger statement as it shows actually you don't agree with any of the parties or feel confident in any of them to do a good enough job.

I would love to see a Labour MP around here, so would rather vote labour than spoil my vote. But know that they have absolutely no chance.

I live in a seat where there's a huge majority and voting tactically won't unseat our MP. Not a chance. Even the tactical voting sites basically say 'don't bother'. So I will vote for the party I want rather than tactically.

SittingAround1 · 07/06/2017 21:39

Vote for who you want to win.

Angryangryyoungwoman · 07/06/2017 21:42

I'm in the same position. Vote with your heart. I am. If others do, labour will win..

PhoenixJasmine · 07/06/2017 21:44

If I was in a really safe seat like that, I'd probably vote with my heart.

I'm tactically voting because I'd really rather vote Lib dem or green but I'm in a Tory/labour swing seat, so labour it is (actually have vote swapped with a labour voter in a Tory/LD swing seat, so I feel much happier about it!)

If I was in a Tory safe seat.... it's not really tactical voting is it, if there's no chance it'll actually change things. I'd go with my heart.

WildBelle · 07/06/2017 21:45

I think voting with my heart is the way forward, either way we're still going to have a Tory MP on Friday so might as well.

Totally agree

This is what I'm going to do

WildBelle · 07/06/2017 21:55

Decision made. I will wear my Corbyn t-shirt with pride tomorrow!

use the tactical2017.com website to check you're doing the correct tactical vote, but anyway no... yanbu

Intransige · 07/06/2017 22:01

I'm in a similar position, my MP will definitely not change this week. So I (postal) voted for who I wanted rather than tactically.

I didn't want to spoil my ballot as that seems defeatist and now more than ever I feel like I need to stay engaged with the political process.

cunningartificer · 07/06/2017 22:07

I would usually say vote for who you believe in, but at the moment this 38degrees.ge2017.com/quiz?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blast2017-06-06 can be a helpful way of working out what the least bad options are. To make your vote as powerful as possible.
