To think Ricky Gervais should stop telling everybody who to vote for?

Does he think being a 'celeb' makes his opinion more valid than anybody else's?

It's getting boring now.

I cannot STAND him. So his opinion is just going to annoy me.

Everyone should make up their own minds by looking at the parties' manifestos, not by which famous person is banging on about their views...

Free speech innit. He can say what he wants, people can choose whether to listen or not. Same for celebs as anyone else.

Booph · 07/06/2017 15:12

I don't think him being on television and film has anything to do with it. Social media, including this website, is full of people stating who they're voting for and why, with many urging others to follow suit or posting ridiculous propaganda from both sides. It's irritating when anyone does it, I don't see the difference that it's him doing it.

I have no issue with celebs (of any stripe) having a political position and wanting to talk about issues that matter to them. Including Gervais.

But the ones who perceive it to be their duty to evangelise about their political stripe cos they have a "platform" I find deeply annoying.

I like the line from Johnathan Pie's post Trump election rant...

it's almost like the political acumen of Beyoncé and J Zee count for NOTHING

Which may not be an entirely accurate quote, and you have to watch it in context for it to work.

But I let out a heartfelt amen on that point.
