The conservative manifesto specifically says that it will allow referenda to prevent council tax being raised. Can I reasonably be scared that this will give resident, for example those who are older, well-heeled and have no interest in local services, to cripple public spending?

They're also planning to do away with fixed term parliaments, so any money the councils do have will be spent running snap elections.

Our local council has just raised council tax by 3% and totally decimated all our services.
They waste money on "consultations" about changes they're making and then don't listen anyway.

Sproglets the tax raise of 3% does not cover the slashed of on averge of 20% the government sourced income.

as you may know each local council gets 2 lots of funding (not including council owned services aka swimming pools etc)

1 from council tax and the other from central government

so in effect your local council are dealing with atleast 15% less funding......
