To complain about kennels?

Am I?

Picked up much loved dog last night after a 2 night stay at kennels, he was limping.

Vets today found that he had snapped his back claw in half and was dangling off but it had turned back on itself and imbedded itself into his foot. It was pulled out with a lot of pain and pus. He has to go back to see if he needs a was out of his foot under GA

The kennels have said they didn't notice he had hurt his foot, I want to complain formally am I being unreasonable?

Complain and leave them a bad review on google.
Fuckers

Yes id complain. Things like snapped claws happen, but ought to be noticed and treated.

sparechange · 05/06/2017 22:06

Definitely complain!
How little exercise was the dog getting if they didn't get a chance to notice he was lame?

I'd definitely complain. You pay good money for your pet to be well cared for, accidents happen but to not notice and obvious injury implies neglect.

Complain! Accidents happen but for them not to notice and it become embedded and infected is not an accident it's neglect

I'm so upset with them! He was there 2 nights! He was so good at the vet but it looks so sore. I just hope it clears up enough by Wednesday to not need an operation to clean it out.
Poor sausage! He looks so annoyed at his cone of shame!

Not meaning to be awful, but I d n it was bad enough to have filled with pus it would suggest that it had occurred prior to him going in to the kennels. I am not excusing that they should have noticed, but should you not have also noticed?

PhDPepper · 05/06/2017 22:26

No he definitely didn't have this on Friday morning when we dropped him off. The vet said it was 2-3 days old but he's probably been licking it constantly and they exercise dogs together so god only knows what he's stepped in.
But I can 100% say he had all of his claws intact when he went to the kennels!

You are absolutely not being unreasonable to complain that they didn't notice he was lame, poor thing. However, for the nail to be so infected and embedded it seems unlikely the injury happened whilst he was at the kennels (infection takes time to build up - I work in the veterinary profession). I would be careful about accusing them of not noticing the injury happening whilst he was with them, as to be honest if he was only in for 2 nights it sounds unlikely. I hope he avoids the anaesthetic and gets better soon!

One of our dogs snapped a claw last month, it just took a few days of rest and he was fine (and no mad hurtling about for a week oe so).
