What causes it? I shower daily. Don't understand it, had the same problem for years.

MargotLovedTom1 · 04/06/2017 00:50

I have an unsmelly inny Wink.

Huldra · 04/06/2017 00:59

No, but I have a neat shallowish inny, it must be one of those maintenance free ones Smile

Is there discharge or soreness?

Ollivander84 · 04/06/2017 01:03

Mine is really deep, about an inch maybe

MrsJamesMathews · 04/06/2017 01:05

Getting in the shower isn't going to keep your belly button clean. You need to get some soap in there and give it a good wriggle. Then dry it!

didn't your mothers teach you anything?

LauderSyme · 04/06/2017 01:07

Reisling That's exactly what I did Grin

I can still feel it though, where I touched it. I was very gentle cos it always feels tender when I do that, it doesn't hurt exactly but almost. Does anyone else get that?

teenybean · 04/06/2017 01:15

This makes me glad to have a bit of an outie! (Although since being pregnant it has popped right out!) But it does NOT smell :-)

Minnie747 · 04/06/2017 01:15

Mine is deep, always have to dry with a cotton bud - otherwise starts to smell. Fine if I dry it though!

Terryscombover · 04/06/2017 01:23

I have appreciated my belly button before but I do now! - shallow no maintenance inny.

Ginger782 · 04/06/2017 01:29

Have you guys googled 'navel stones'?

Well thanks....just....thanks.... I didn't need that knowledge in my life... EnvyConfused ew ew ew.

Going to wash my belly button thoroughly to prevent naval stones now.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/06/2017 01:34

"Getting in the shower isn't going to keep your belly button clean. "

It does for me.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 04/06/2017 01:43

Sudo cream on cotton bud.

Where do your waistbands sit on your body is it directly over top of belly button? Causing sweat and moisture to gather and fluff from clothes.

I going to be wise and not Google navel Stones

AlmostAJillSandwich · 04/06/2017 01:48

I can't put a cotton bud or anything in mine, it makes me urgently need to pee.
It was bleeding the other day though, i have a suspected underactive thyroid and ridiculously dry skin which seems to apply in there too.

SleightOfHand · 04/06/2017 02:01

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I clean it out but still. Does anyone know if there's a connection between the bellybutton and the vagina, because I get an odd feeling there while cleaning my bellybutton, please tell me I'm not the only one.

NotWaitingAnymore · 04/06/2017 09:57

I put some tea tree oil in mine using a cotton bud as mine is super deep.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 04/06/2017 10:00

Yes you have to go in there with a finger and soap everytime you shower, same with the area behind the ears. Its easy for bacteria to build up in a small place like that. I get the same with an operation scar that is a bit messy.
Canesten cream works well too if it gets red and sore as well.

MrsGotobed · 04/06/2017 10:08

Wow I never knew this problem existed.

I think mine is probably quite shallow and neat compared to the average. None of this hidden crevices or fingers disappearing inside. Nowhere for navel stones ( ) to hide!!

In fact mine always reminds me of an upholstery button ... imagine you have a cushion with a button slightly depressed into the middle of it- that's my belly button

SparklyMagpie · 04/06/2017 10:25

I have but i had laparoscopic surgery just under 4 weeks ago and developed an infection, despite nearly 3 weeks of antibiotics the infection is still there and is very sore and smelly. I dilute dettol liquid and warm water and clean it and make sure i dry properly and keep my tshirt off it to expose it when im pottering round the house to get some air to it

I don't suffer on a daily basis though

Iamastonished · 04/06/2017 10:30

"Wow I never knew this problem existed."

Me neither MrsGoToBed I never pay any attention to mine because it never needs any.

NotWaitingAnymore · 04/06/2017 10:46

@SparklyMagpie

Have the doctors changed the type of antibiotics? You may find a different one works.

I had the same thing happen. I think mine was because my BB is so deep that even with washing and them scrubbing, it could not get it totally sterile plus they closed it with glue whereas I think stitches would have worked better. It made what should have been a tiny scar really chunky/big as I got a hole in it that my body had to fill in.

YellowLawn · 04/06/2017 10:57

systemic antibiotics do not work on the skin, antiseptic washes or creams are needed for that.

TSSDNCOP · 04/06/2017 11:45

How can you smell it though? Does it waft upward? Can you bend over and sniff it?

Lasagnabreath · 04/06/2017 21:55

I think it only smells if you've put your finger in there lol then it wafts from your finger if you don't wash it.

Madwoman5 · 04/06/2017 22:03

Doc used to give me stuff they use for conjunctivitis. 24 hours, gone
