My baby is going bald! Help

Hi all posting here for traffic really sorry!
My baby is 14 weeks old and has loads of hair, she was born with loads of hair and never lost any of it, it's just got thicker and longer, anyway I wake up this morning and her mattress is covered in hair and I can see at the back where it is from.
I know babies can lose there hair but is it normal at 14 weeks if they haven't lost any before and is it normal to lose that much overnight?
Thank you for reading!!

Yes perfectly normal. Most if not all babies will have a bald patch on the back of their heads due to spending all of their time lying down rubbing their heads on whatever they are led on.

ChildishGambino · 03/06/2017 07:41

Yep, all normal

Pickleypickles · 03/06/2017 07:43

Thank you, I had images of my baby looking like Harry Hill by morning Blush

My eldest did this. He's 13 now and has got the thickest hair you've ever seen that needs cutting every 3-4 weeks! Don't worry

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 08:06

Totally normal! But it might grow back quite differently :)

DC was born with loads of very dark curls. Lost the lot in a week at about 4 months. Was bald for a bit. Now has loads of thick straight light brown hair as a toddler. Similarly my friend's little girl, also born with black curls, went bald. Then it grew back red and is now a gorgeous strawberry blonde. You'd never have believed she was such a dark baby!

mygorgeousmilo · 03/06/2017 08:09

Mine all did this, the youngest lost it all on one side! Now all now big kids with masses of thick glossy hair. Don't worry

DonaldStott · 03/06/2017 08:16

It is normal. When our dd was born, she mad a mass of thick black hair. My dh joked that he thought I was giving birth to a wig.

3-4 months on and she was practically bald. Apart from one long thick strip which made her look like she had a comb over Grin

Fast forward to about a year, and all her luscious locks were back. Her hair is so thick and gorgeous and I am jealous of it.

All of mine had bald phases. Ds 1 was born with bright ginger hair and soon had a huge bald patch. His new hair grew in white blonde and then we had a period of time where he had two tone hair and looked utterly adorably hilarious.

BaffledMummy · 03/06/2017 08:47

DD was born with gorgeous chocolate brown hair with golden streaks...after a few weeks she had what only can be described at male pattern baldness....just some little tufts at the side remained. She looked like friar tuck poor thing! Was tempted to shave it all off (apparently they do this in a number of cultures to make sure the hair grows in evenly) but couldn't bring myself to and it eventually grew in but all different lengths.... her hair is just starting to look somewhat sensible now at nearly 2!

MissObsessed · 03/06/2017 08:54

When my DS was born he had masses of red hair and the front stood up in a little quiff. Then one morning, when he was about 6 weeks old, I got him up and all the top had fallen out. He looked like this picture of Winston Churchill grin The rest then fell out about a week later and has grown back so blonde that you can hardly see it.

Sunnywithadashofgin · 03/06/2017 08:55

Mine lost all his hair! It grew back thicker and blonder.

MissObsessed · 03/06/2017 08:55

Pic didn't attach!

SleepFreeZone · 03/06/2017 08:55

I have pictures of DS1 with a mowhalk as he lost his hair from the sides and DS 2 totally bald as he lost his hair from the top and I couldn't cope with the old man look so we trimmed the sides up leaving him like a boiled egg 😳

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 03/06/2017 08:55

Mine is 5 weeks and receding at the hair kind.

RedBugMug · 03/06/2017 08:58

dc went into a bath at 5 weeks old with lovely wispy hair and came out completely bald. stayed bald until a year old.

Oysterbabe · 03/06/2017 08:59

Yep normal.

Although some babies don't rub the back of their hair off as they refuse to ever be out down Hmm

Elledouble · 03/06/2017 08:59

Oh bless you - yes, totally normal. My son was born with gorgeous tufty hair (including little tufts on the tips of his ears which I thought made him look like a baby owl). It all fell out, starting from the nape of his neck and moving forwards. He was bald for a bit but it gradually grew back Smile

ShowMePotatoSalad · 03/06/2017 09:03

My DS had a bald patch when he was younger, and is now a mass of curls. Don't worry. Smile

daisychainagain · 03/06/2017 09:11

Aww I remember my eldest had really thick hair apart from the back where he was completely bald! It's normal lovely.

OhDearToby · 03/06/2017 09:18

My dd1 was born with lots of dark hair then lost it all. She was then pretty much bald till she was two Grin it grew back blonde and still is at age 7.

bookworm14 · 03/06/2017 09:24

Totally normal. My DD was born with thick black hair which she gradually lost; at 4-7 months she had the hairline of a balding middle-aged man. Her 'real' hair then came in, and now at 21m she has a lovely head of curls. Hang in there, you won't have a bald baby forever!

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 03/06/2017 09:36

Yup, normal. Like Toby a couple of posts earlier, mine was born with thick dark hair, lost it after a few months, was bald as a coot for a few months, now has thick blond hair (sadly gone from very blond to darker as he's got older).

IloveBanff · 03/06/2017 09:36

"I had images of my baby looking like Harry Hill by morning"

I just imagined a little baby girl wearing a babygro with a giant white collar, so thanks for that. Grin

DisorderedAllsorts · 03/06/2017 09:40

Absolutely normal, I shaved both of my dc hair as babies as is standard practice in my culture. They've got the thickest & quickest growing hair now so it hasn't done them any harm.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 03/06/2017 09:43

When my ds had a bald patch dd drew a smiley face on it!! Smile
