Apparently if the NHS is privatised we wont have to pay for medicine.

So says my Tory dad. Is he right?

Confused
notanevilstepmother · 02/06/2017 12:44

Did he see this written on the side of a bus?!

honeysucklejasmine · 02/06/2017 12:44

Does he know what "privatised" means?!

AntiHop · 02/06/2017 12:45

No! We'd have to pay for everything. Medicines, treatment, the lot. Either through paying directly or indirectly through expensive insurance.

harderandharder2breathe · 02/06/2017 12:46

I don't think he understands the meaning of "privatised"

napmeistergeneral · 02/06/2017 12:47

What? Like the free trains and the free energy and the free postage for mail?

PeanutButterJellyTimeforTea · 02/06/2017 12:48

Who does he think would pay for it then?

PacificDogwod · 02/06/2017 12:49

Sadly, I'd not be surprised if not many Tory voters/Brexetiers had similarly simplified world views.

He'd have to pay more for somebody to not just provide his health care but make a profit from it.

ExplodedCloud · 02/06/2017 12:52

Can you ask him to show his working out?

malificent7 · 02/06/2017 12:53

Apparently it will be free "at the point of entry. "
Apparently we have more food banks as we live in a more compassionate society... not because we have more poor.
Hes clearly been brain washed by the Telegraph.
Oh yes.. and also unemployment is at record lows. Im a bit ShockHmmConfused

Oh dear, ill-informed ranting at its best!

specialsubject · 02/06/2017 12:56

Your dad is a fool.
Your dad votes Tory.

Therefore, says mn , all Tory voters are fools.

Think about it.

ExplodedCloud · 02/06/2017 13:00

It would be funny if he didn't actually cast his vote on that basis...

CleopatraTheCatLover · 02/06/2017 13:00

You're not alone op, my mum comes out with crap like this too Sad

ZebraOwl · 02/06/2017 13:03
Hmm

Has he recently had a blow to the head? Or a seizure? I once spent a while when post-ictal (but able to string together a sentence, obviously) insisting we should be nicer to worms because they aerate the soil but no one ever says thank you! I got quite upset about it apparently...

I genuinely cannot think - & I'm a Brownie Leader, so used to navigating some spectacular mental leaps & misunderstandings - how he's understood privatisation = free medication.

We would very definitely be paying for medication in a privatised NHS. And it is vanishingly unlikely it would be at the current low fee of the prescription charge too.

Jesus wept. Free medication. From the medicine fairy maybe? Feck knows most people will be relying on the tooth fairy for dental care if the Tories keep hacking the NHS into bits, so why not...

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 02/06/2017 13:05

Let me ask my sister in Australia or my dil in the US.

JassyRadlett · 02/06/2017 13:08

Oh, special, your gift for fiction is fading. Just too obvious this time, my dear. You need to wait for the thread to be longer before you pretend things have been said that actually haven't it you want people to believe it.

expatinscotland · 02/06/2017 13:08

What part of private business = profit driven does he not understand?

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/06/2017 13:09

My mother is also an avid brainwashed telegraph reader. Some of her anecdotes. No one is poor. She can't wait for Scotland to leave the uk Sad.

acquiescence · 02/06/2017 13:11

Hahaha. Yes, when things are privatised the private companies don't want any money for things and give things away for free. Hahaha.

CeciledeVolanges · 02/06/2017 13:11

I'm not sure he understands the meaning of English words either

WorldsacpeLove · 02/06/2017 13:13

Are you in Scotland?

nannybeach · 02/06/2017 13:13

Dont read the telegraph, but several other papers and TV and radio have Jeremy Corbyn, delluding folk into thinking they are getting free childcare, free university place, wiping out all student dept, one paper says today he had a money tree, must be one of those ones you see in the Chinese.

WorldsacpeLove · 02/06/2017 13:14

@nannybeach Well said.

Our Local Labour Mp is even going around telling us that it's fine to vote for her because "Jeremy Corbyn" Will never be prime minster...

WTF.

viques · 02/06/2017 13:17

ever seen the bill from a private hospital? Every cotton wipe, ampoules of water, paracetamol tablet will be itemised and charged for!

tell your dad the only thing you might get free is the pharmacists paper bag , and remember what happened to supermarket bags.........
