To think my scales are wrong? Or I'm just unable to do basic maths?

Gained A LOT weight recently, due to depression and medication and now I'm trying to shift it.

Weighed myself and I'm 207lbs.

I divided it by 14 and rounded it up to 14 stone 8lbs.

But when I get on the scales and change the settings to stone and lbs ... it says I'm 14 stone 10lbs.

I know it's only 2lbs but when you're trying to lose weight, every single lb counts. Have I done my maths wrong?

Unless my maths is out too I make that 14st 11... Confused

MapMyMum · 01/06/2017 19:22

14.8 is not 14st 8lbs...

harderandharder2breathe · 01/06/2017 19:22

I get 14st 11lbs too sorry OP

Doglikeafox · 01/06/2017 19:22

I make it 14 stone 11 pounds too.
My scales don't directly translate either. Try and stick with one measurement Smile

TheseAreTheDays · 01/06/2017 19:23

207 is actually 14 stone 11 - 14 stone would be 196,plus 11 pounds brings up to 207. I found with our scales it can differ from one moment to the next if you stand on it slightly differently or if you move it on the floor. So I tend to weigh myself three times and take whichever comes up twice

olderthanyouthink · 01/06/2017 19:23

Google it or use kg I can't understand imperial weights and I feel very unbritish admitting it

C3H8O · 01/06/2017 19:23

Your maths is wrong. 207lbs is equal to 14.79st. However, when you want to break it up into lbs and st, 0.79 st is equal to 11lbs. Therefore, 207lbs = 14st 11lbs.

harderandharder2breathe · 01/06/2017 19:23

Pick one unit of measurement and stick to it when tracking your weight loss, it's easier to keep track of

PenPineapplePen · 01/06/2017 19:23

14st 11

AdalindSchade · 01/06/2017 19:24

14x14 = 196
207-196 = 11
14 stone 11. How did you come to 14 8?

PenPineapplePen · 01/06/2017 19:24

0.79 stone does not round up to 8lbs as there are not 10lb in a stone!

MapMyMum · 01/06/2017 19:25

14.5 is 14 stone 7lbs so 14.78 is a good bit higher and not far off 15 stones which comes straight after 14.9

ShowOfHands · 01/06/2017 19:25

Yep. As others have said .8 means an eighth of a stone. Which is 11lbs.

fanfrickintastic · 01/06/2017 19:26

207 divided by 14 is 14.78 but that's not 14lb 7.8lbs. It's 14stone and 78% of a stone. 78% of a stone is 10/11lbs.

Quartz2208 · 01/06/2017 19:26

Yep dividing 207 by 14 gives 14.8 the 0.8 means 80% of a stone or 11 pounds

amy85 · 01/06/2017 19:26

I make it 14st 11

You can't just divide by 14 and round it up.

You divide by 14 then this will give you how many stones you are. Then the decimal needs multiplying by 14 to see how many pounds are left over

MasuMara · 01/06/2017 19:26

I just divided 207 by 14

OP posts:
Okite · 01/06/2017 19:26

It's your maths.. you've divided it by 14 which gives 14.78. But then you've rounded that 0.78 up to 8 lbs, which it isn't, it's 0.78 of a stone, or 14 lbs. 0.78 x 14 = 10.92 lbs

MasuMara · 01/06/2017 19:26

Oh well off to go kill myself

Ilovetolurk · 01/06/2017 19:37

Don't worry OP the difference is just a good shit as my DH would say

MaidOfStars · 01/06/2017 19:45

Stones/lbs are imperial, not metric. You've rounded as if it's metric.

Switch to kg. Much easier.

And YY to 'big poo' Grin

InvisibleKittenAttack · 01/06/2017 19:56

Go with kg, DH bought some scales that only work in kg about 10 years ago and I've never felt the need to change back, I understand how much a kg is, I use kg for baking so can picture it, the maths is easy and you know where you stand with it!
