Not to heat the paddling pool?

I've just been told off again for expecting a friends DCs to play in an 'unheated' paddling pool. It was 28 degrees and I filled the pool with cold water early in the day so it could warm up in the sun all day for when the DCs came home from school.

Apparently I should have filled the pool with warm water or used lots of kettles to top it up. FWIW none of the DCs complained and the only ones who got a bit chilly were mine (much skinnier!). The only complaints were when we asked them to get out... but this is the second friend who has made a fuss...

I'm a Scot and both of the friends are from families from much warmer places so wondering if AIBU?

What do you do?

People actually heat paddling pools?!

Throw a washing up bowl or kettle full of hot water in?

Or just tell em not to be so marrdy arsed

DH runs a hose from the hot tap. Soft as shite.

If it was 28c outside then I'd have just used cold water too. If however DD wants to play in the pool when it's a cooler day then I add water from the kettle so it's not too cold.

It's a pool, not a bath. Children are capable of getting out if they are cold though all the kids I know seem to possess some kind of superhuman immunity to cold

If it's not hot enough for cold water in a paddling pool then it's too cold to paddle.

No wonder kids are getting softer.

I'm a soft southerner and I definitely wouldn't heat a paddling pool!

Cold water is fine.

Water straight from the hose. I've never heated the paddling pool water.

I'm in Scotland too. I've never heated a paddling pool - if it's hot enough for a paddling pool then fine but I'm not heating it. Dd requests the paddling pool out whenever it gets above about 8 degrees!!!

Heated paddling pools?? The whole point is the cold water on a hot day?? Have the asked the school to put outdoor heaters in for playtime too??

The whole point of a paddling pool is to cool the little blighters down.

I come from right down south and there is no way in hell I would ever heat a paddling pool. Surely the entire point of them is to cool the kids down and have that delicious difference of hot weather/cool water. Never heard such nonsense.

Isn't that half the fun, jumping in and screaming at the cold and jumping out then throwing yourself around in the cold water.
Heating a paddling pool is ridiculous.

What next? running through a sprinkler with a thermostat at blood temperature? Asking Blackpool council to install an element into the sea so the cold doesn't cause the snowflakes to shiver?

We have a 15ft easy up pool, had it for years, no way could I fill it with warm water and keep it warm without an expensive swimming pool heater (which we don't have)

Dc and friends don't care they soon get use to it, and by the end of summer youngest dc is still swimming in rain and wind and we all have jumpers on

The parents are being unreasonable. If the kids are cold they say and get out.

Well I wouldn't heat it per se, I do use a hose attachement to the kitchen tap though so just make it a nice temperature!

We heat ours so it's luke warm. However I cannot stand cold water I was in my
Hot tub last night with the temp at 40, no way in hell would my feet even touch a cold padding pool.

I boil about 10 kettles full to add to the paddling pool. It was luke warm by the time I'd finished.

Pffft, straight out the garden hose where I'm from (Geordie land)
