Are there more flies this year than ever?

Can't leave doors or windows open without piles of the buggers coming in. Downside of the sunny weather. Not sure that I remember there being so many last year though. And they seem BIG

Yes so I spent this morning researching how to deter them. So I now have little bowls of lemon juice with a few cloves in dotted around the house, also a citrus and thyme diffuser. Apparently flies hate all those smells. I've got to say I've had a lot less flies in so I think it's working.
