What the hell is a unmumsnetty hug? I've also seen people say flowers are for support but you can't give it in mumsnet?

Who started this all? And how does an unmumsnetty hug differ from a normal one? Which hug master did posters learn this hug from? Do we get a group discount?

It's to sort of differentiate MNers from other forums that post things like

'Awww. Hugz 2 u n ur baba hun'

(It hurt typing that)

It's kind of the equivalent of an awkward manly pat on the shoulder.

Wouldn't be so soft as to actually hug, but recognise the fact you might need one.

It's because members of mumsnet, very adorably, think they are everso different from people who are members of different social media sites aimed at parents.

They aren't, obviously.

We're traditionally "vipers".
We're straight talking, swearing, witty and sarcastic.
We're not traditionally very touchy feely.

As a result, if you get a hug it's because we think you really really need one.

It's "unMumsnetty" not because they aren't excellent and sincerely given hugs but because they are rarely bestowed.

multivac we aren't different people (some MNers are members of both), but you must admit the culture here is quite different to the other place.

It's the reason I came to mumsnet hearts and years ago. Other sites offer virtual hugs, which really help no-one. Mumsnet gives actual advice which may be harsh but is real. (((()))) - how does that help anyone?

It's part of the undercurrent of snobbery on MN unfortunately. It's a dig at all those mums on Netmums who use words like "hun", "hubby" and "bubs" and give out a lot of virtual hugs to each other because obviously they are so thick and chavvy hahaha

There are some really great people on mumsnet but unfortunately there are quite a few who think they are superior. It really fucks me off when I see people take the piss with all the fake "Ur bubba Ur rulz hun" shite. I mean, I wouldn't talk like that myself and maybe it is a bit twee, but it's just really mean spirited to take the piss out of someone purely to make yourself feel smarter/better/posher than them.

To be fair all of the people I know who use terms like him, buns etc are massive assholes that I can't stand and only have contact with them because they are family.

Hun especially seems to be used mainly by self absorbed, bitter psychopaths.
